That may be the point, but when you introduce something radical, it's naive to think that it's "one and done." I would guess that within 6 months, many issues will be raised internally about this policy. It's not th

My first thought: a startup in the server business shouldn't be also trying to redefine compensation in the world. I say this because I've tried something similar several times, and always regretted it. They're going to hav

I'm 62. I fell in love with programming as an undergraduate in 1977. I had traveled across the country to attend a school (University of North Texas) renowned for their music program. Not seeing my future in music, I was fortunate that

I discovered Chick's "Children's Songs" about six months ago, ordered the book of music, and have been playing them joyfully since. It's a series of 20-ish little compositions for solo piano, each very short (1-2 mi

You're making a giant logic error. It may well be true that most self-made millionaires started a company. It is certainly not true that most people who start companies become self-made millionaires, which was the premise of your ori

I think you're on to something, but "humility" doesn't seem to quite get at it. Maybe "focus"? It seems that the author is saying that to be moral and morally effective, one needs to be ends-focused, as opposed

Like music or art, I think that one starts to see, and appreciate, nuances as one learns and experiences more. If you’re drawn to the beauty and nuance of fonts, you start to develop preferences and appreciations for details. If you’re simp

I totally agree with you. I’m no fan of Comic Sans, but monospaced it’s really quite nice. I think Comic Shanns does things like set all the characters on the baseline, eliminate goofy tilting, etc. The letter shapes themselves are nice.

It looks like it’s not exactly the same. With Lufthansa, it looks like you get some sort of cushion that presumably smooths out the seat bumps, which would make a big comfort difference, at least for me. However, I won’t be trying it out.

I take the general gist of some of your points, but it might be worth reframing some of your logic. To take just one point, let's go to the casino: you have a 97% chance of winning...pretty great! The downside is that if you lose, we t
