This depends on if you're doing live transcoding or VOD transcoding. I work with live transcode, and it can be beneficial to run on g2 instances. Running c4.4xlarge I can transcode a good number of 1080@30 in with 1080/720/48

I've worked in monoliths, and I've worked with good logically thought out microservices. I'll take the open source microservices model with a good dev team any day of the week. I can't imagine being in a place where I do

what bothers me about it is the 75% pay, because I could never imagine not putting in additional hours. Were I only getting 75% of the pay of a full time worker, you can be sure I'd never put in a single additional hour. I could say th

Just checked and we are not right now. We actually don't have any remote engineers right now. We did just hire an additional person for DevOps.

I don't think all unlimited vacation policies are scams. At my office we get told we need to take more vacation if we don't take at least 3 weeks. And I have never once seen a vacation request denied. It sounds like you've go

I have had a teacher that said you needed to comment every single line because that's how code is written in the real world. I told him he was wrong and argued with him on more than one occasion. In the end, I just did it his way becau

Are xHamster users going to be contacting their reps to complain that they can no longer access it? That's another situation that seems unlikely to me.

Last time I was looking for a job I ended up with offers from both places I was interviewing at. I renegotiated and signed one of the offer letters. When I called the other company, they asked me to sign with them even though I'd alrea

Salaries are lagging in Waterloo as well. That's not to say they're bad or the CoL is equal, but they are lagging.

If you are talking about a module that everyone just includes and expects to work, then I'd imagine the goal would be a combination of correct and efficient, not readable.

VC are not donating money. They are investing. In order for them to be successful, there must be a return on their investment. This means that either companies need to be acquired, or they need to go public. If someone is investing a billio

I can imagine this is a problem for many potential donors. As a software dev, I was on vacation for three weeks. Of course, I mainly sit and type while I work and have unlimited vacation. But I can definitely see this being a problem for th

I was an anonymous living donor who kicked off a donation chain. I don't think it's a big deal. Recovery sucked for a couple weeks, but when you consider the benefit alongside the developments occurring in medicine all the time, i
