From a technical founder's position, as having been someone whose been recruited a lot recently: Try focusing more on what you have to offer than what they most possess to be qualified to work with you. If you're like most people talk to,

I just formed an LLC in California, and the process and the associated hassles suck. It's a bootstrapped business that's profitable, but barely, so I didn't have a lot to spend. However, I needed to get the LLC in place relatively quickly

This was my thought exactly - Find out where the candy otakus and/or japanophiles hang out, and test buying advertisement there, in whatever form is available/can be negotiated. This might look like banner ads, blog sponsorship, etc. Tes

Do you have to precommmit to the grocery store with how much candy you'll buy? If not, then really the only added complexity would be the label printing step - you just print some labels on different frequencies from others. If I were you

I experimented with having turkers grade elementary school math quizzes. The idea was that teachers would scan in their all their quizzes/tests/homework to be graded along with the answer key, and turkers would grade according to the key.

This is pretty well done. I'd like it better if I could use it with just my left hand. I use an external mouse and keyboard - I'd prefer to not have to take my right hand off the mouse. I've been using Flexiglass for a while now, but only

Most of my work was basic LAMP stack (perl and php). I developed a set of long term clients that relied on me to run the web infrastructure for their small online business, whatever that happened to entail. Usually a mixture of system adm

I think starting freelancing before you quit is very wise. One of the things about switching from full-time employment to freelancing is that it often takes much longer to get paid, and cash flow is much less steady. It also takes a while

I put myself through college about 6 years ago contracting. I found most of my clients through similar sites (Rentacoder and scriptlance). I was making about $30k a year working part time during the school year, and mostly full time in th

Glad that was helpful. 4chan is just an example. Go find the other 20 websites like them that have good traffic volumes that you can advertise on.

I've stopped filing paper in a filing cabinet. Now I just scan it and throw it out. (I should be shredding it, but haven't gotten around to buying a shredder). This takes strictly less time than filing it by hand, is more enjoyable, and b

Go find alternative distribution channels. Have you tried walking into local head shops and asking them if they'd stock it? If so, find out who their main distributors are, and go talk to them. How about running banner ads on 4chan ( http:

I don't think it's so much a matter of how fast CAN you go from idea to first line of code, but rather, how fast SHOULD you go from idea to first line of code. Starting writing code for an idea is often as simple as opening your text edito

Not being much of a hardware geek, I'm having a hard time evaluating how fast each core is. From the site: "With instruction times as low as 1400 picoseconds and consuming as little as 7 picojoules of energy, each of the 144 computers can d

No Android version in the works just yet, but we've gotten lots of requests. For what it's worth, I've personally found that having the intention to write someone's name down in Namerick makes me more likely to remember in that initial exch

No, you have particularly bad luck:) I haven't seen any come up anywhere near that explicit yet. The namericks are randomly generated from a list of words, which sometimes leads to hilarity. That being said, mnemonics that are slightly s

Yes, iCloud should work right now, which solves the "what if I lose my phone or get a new phone" concerns. Our backup/export features will be more focused on the "I want to use my Namerick data in some other context" use case.

Yep, we're on it:) We want this to, and have gotten similar feedback from some of our beta testers. Our focus for this first version was on making the core experience of recording, retaining and retrieving names really solid. Backup/expor

We built Namerick because we had a hard time remembering everyone we met at meetups and hackathons. It's an iphone app to help you remember the names of people you've just met. We used repetition and mnemonics modeled from memory 'athlete

Not to worry - this code is only included for this query. I can guarantee you this easter egg wouldn't have shipped if it had required supporting code to be present on every query, for the reasons you mentioned.
