That title is very misleading... Google is not funding Firefox OS. Google basically pays Firefox for traffic. Firefox is free to do whatever they want with their own money.

I would say that in most cases early stage startups should not give away equity but should stick with donation/preorder crowdfunding. I see crowdfunding as a tool for startup that can be used to validate their MVP.

Look into crowdfunding. You don't have to give away any equity and a successfully funded campaign basically validates your MVP.

I suppose it's a pretty good approach in order to help avoid upsetting website owners and possible lawsuits. While I'm not too sure I agree with it, I can appreciate that they have provided a very easy way for websites to opt-out.

Stripe is a pretty awesome company. Much more easy to integrate with compared to Paypal and their support blows Paypal out of the water.
