Thanks for this. I've been daydreaming about something like this to replace my Lantronix Spider, but... sounds like I'll stick with the steampunk old-tech for a little while longer :)

Moats cost money. Thinking that everything can be commoditized once there is inertia is how we all get Alibaba Maps in a few years.

I would not presume to request changes to HN. I think it's sublime and I love what I discover here. ...but if I did, it would be to wish for a tip jar or some way to give back to the unflappable mods.

I wonder what % of the country (much less the world) make less than 150k and this thread is just shitting all over them. 90%? 95%? 98%? I'm embarrassed by this whole thing.

I use OpenRouter for similar reasons -- half to avoid lock-in, and the other half to reduce the switching pain, which is just a way to say "if I do get locked in, I want to move easily"

I'm surprised at this expectation. I work hard to cultivate hobbies outside of programming, but inevitably, I find a way to improve that other hobby with software. I'm just wired like that I think. I love systems. Code is my love

I'm good at ignoring these "deals" but oh man my kryptonite remains "spend X more to get free shipping" -- Prime has ruined me for valuing shipping cost. Literally in buyer remorse right now because I overbought abo

For my case, and my workload, the answer has always been "RAM is cheap, and swapping sucks" -- but there are folks using Rpi as a NAS platform so really... my anecdote actually sucks upon reflection and I'd retract it if I co

Blocking is a "no" and also a "I don't even respect you enough to deliver my answer to you or acknowledge your question". About as tactful as ghosting.

The charms of Indiana have been consistently lost on me over the years; it enhanced the article for me, and I read nearly his entire blog after his Greenland rantlet. I learned a few things. Different strokes I suppose :)

I job hop frequently, and have a large zeroth-order network because I did good work at each one. When I am in a hiring role, I am not flipping through memories of good times with former coworkers that I had deep and meaningful time with --

I have a dryer outlet that caught fire charging our little i3. I'm not sure why GP said "some countries" -- I'm in the US. The heat warped the plastic just enough to bridge one leg of the power socket to ground. It got p

Very excited for my impending choice between a 30-day extension to my Prime membership or a $5 off of $50 coupon for anything in the Prime Fresh store. ...after 5 years of lawfare and gozillions spent, of course. :/

Yeah, after I posted (and disappointed a few people apparently) I was thinking about just how sticky this stuff really is, and how our political system is a "broad brush" system. It seems to muddle a lot of the smaller sensible de
