In Brazil the labor relations are heavily regulated. Each hour you are on-call you make 1/3 of a regular hour of work, and while you answer a call and work on weekends or at night you are paid twice the regular hourly wage. You are exp

This is true, but any decent IDE (I use PyCharm by Jetbrains) will hint you are overrinding a global variable. I like to use the underscore as a throwaway because it is explicit - it is far more common for me to override other common throwa

Yes, this is the point. The GIL matters only if you are using threads with CPU-bound tasks (most of my work is I/O bound). When I have CPU-bound problems that need parallelism and are not yet well implemented in numpy/scipy, I wou

My kid loves the PBS show "cat in a hat". There is an episode about the Tardigrade (#207): > Synopsis: Nick and Sally are trying to guess what animal is the toughest one — is it a lion? Oh no, it must be the enormous elephant!

If you have 8GB or more of RAM you should be fine on either OS. 4GB is doable if you refrain from opening too many browser tabs.

At the time I was working in the same building of the Sony offices in Brazil and overheard people commenting about the incident on the elevator. I still think it was an internal job. https://raw.githubusercontent.com/scardin

This is a global market. Brazilians can buy fake ATMs from Russia, rent botnets to Nigerians and commission computer trojans with Serbians.

If you really need to drink an engineered solution it is a symptom of something else. Having to skip or delay a major meal should be a matter of absolute emergency. I guess in the USA lunch is not the major meal, but it is sacred in my side

While OOP is perfectly possible in Rust, IMHO it is a lot more like doing OOP in C than in C++ (despite nice features like traits and generics). Rust is marketed as a "general-purpose, multi-paradigm, compiled programming language"

I'm OK with dynamic types, they buy you something, cost you something. My big complaint is weakly typed languages (I'm looking at you, JavaScript). I've just fired SHIFT+CTRL+i and typed the line below in the JavaScript conso

When you answer an RFP, most likely you are engaging into a race to the bottom (competing on price). Often an RFP means some PHB made a poor diagnostic, devised the wrong solution and just want someone to build it. That is why I don't
