From my experience an engineering manager in most organisations is considered a direct promotion from a senior or lead engineer. Compensation tends to follow this and thus I'd warrant in 90% plus of cases engineering managers make mor

Wisdom and perspective are not necessarily correlated with age. Your second sentence is correct, each individual needs to judge roughly the right time based on mental, physical and financial situations. For me there was never going to be a r

I agree with your sentiment, HN is notorious for armchair-quarterbacking with this subject. Do you know of any cleantech software that take on remote workers?

I've said it before but as long as you can get a PO box for the vatican city then Gitlab are going to have to pay you a lot!

1. Totally agree, you've gotta work with constraints and engineers need to work towards generating revenue for the business as the primary goal. 2. 100% agree. 3. Getting shit done usually means things done shitly. It's the poin

Thanks for the suggestions! A) I'm going to add the nofollow and noarchive to see if that helps the issue. B) I've already set the search console to ignore the query parameter but I'm still getting new spam results coming in.

Would adding robots.txt help? I cannot blanket ban the page as it needs to display to the user with 0 or more results and my understanding is that whilst robots.txt would take precedence for index settings as I have it defined in the heade

This site looks perfect for say the bar down the road that publish a lot of stuff on Facebook. I imagine they'd be completely lost using S3 :)

I wholeheartedly agree! Companies that delay tackling technical debt still ship features, they get slower and more error prone development as time passes. As they still keep shipping they can fail to see how much faster they'd be ship

I've done this many times and I would say it's only reciprocated around 50% of the time. It's more nuanced than helping them succeed and expecting them to help you.

If you've been on OSX for the last 10 years then indeed Linux was very different. Whilst I won't attempt to argue you should swap or anything, I've found modern distros are pretty much plug and go when it comes to wifi/

This is something that Spain also has (and is being phased out). I live in Barcelona, I pay 1000 euros for my two bed apartment, every 3 years the rent has to be renegotiated. My lovely neighbour who is 92 pays under 100 euros for the exa
