Last time I checked there were only a few dozens of them. Phew, now I can search my Earthbound tips right from the browser. https://duckduckgo.com/bang#bangs-list

I don't understand this comment. All modern filesystems are extent-based. If you have enough contiguous space, a hundred gigabyte file could easily be stored in a single extent. Block-based allocation hasn't been used since ext2&#

This is really tangential to the topic, but does anybody know of any decent performance comparisons between Xwayland and plain X? I saw some talks made by Xorg developers (Keith Packard and others) from ~2012 or so, where they speculated th

`commit` doesn't mean `push`. Commit locally, rewrite history with rebase before pushing it to others.

But I am using a cheap keyboard. About 10 times cheaper than the cheapest mechanical keyboard that's decent enough to spend any money on. That's the entire point of my comment above.

Not to rain on your parade, but 10 years is nothing. I'm still using my cheap A4Tech KV-300H bought back in early 2011 for about $15. It works just as it did the day it was bought, except for some minor cosmetic wear. It had tea, coffe

Bureaucratic forms have a tendency to change unpredictably. Today they want weight in kilograms, tomorrow they'll want it in grams, and the day after that in standardized intergalactic weight units. I get what you're saying (and I

Here's another good review of the pain you get if you want to get your data to disk safely. (SQLite does this for you automatically, BTW.) "Ensuring data reaches disk" https://lwn.net/Articles/457667/

I guess you have an Nvidia card? The two other major vendors have mainline (therefore GPLed) drivers and basically work out of the box. Keep that in mind during your next hardware upgrade. Nvidia was the least terrible solution about 10 yea

Maybe it's not a problem for you if you upgrade your hardware frequently (and don't care that it stops working on newer versions of Windows because the vendor couldn't give a shit about keeping the driver up to date), and buy

150 MB RSS of a single worker process (out of typically 4+)? Did the dude at least try running `free -h` before and after starting any Electron application? Multiple that by at least 5 and you're somewhat closer to the truth.

Who is downvoting this and why? Face it, Xorg is on life support. The only patches it still receives are Xwayland-related fixes.
