I would like to believe these guys but the figures seem a little low and I couldn't find a citation. What does 'access' mean here? How do they define 'broadband'?

I had the same issues starting CL. I think which LISP you pick is less important in the long run, rather than getting into the mode of writing functional programs. At some level, writing CL and writing Erlang are not that different experien

I don't think the Nobel committee has ever given out the price without having been slammed by someone or some government. The price is political so it's no wonder. Apparently, Chinese foreign affairs has already stated that this may damage

I always found Chaitin's books very enjoyable. The guy does not exactly curb his enthusiasm for algorithmic information theory, often with erotic allusions - it's porn for discrete mathematicians :)

I don't think this is a good idea. As a somewhat loose comparison I wouldn't make a newyrktimes.com with an alternative layout either. There must be endless other ways of spending one's spare time, e.g. by making something you can charge fo

I use Emacs/Eclipse in my job because I work with Erlang/Java, but previously held several C#/VS positions. I sometimes get the feeling that people who haven't worked with this combo don't realize how powerful it is. Visual Studio is great

I need to get into this business. Couldn't agree more with the style. Somehow my managers have been convinced that financial incentives don't work in tech. Screw that. I think we should make t-shirts saying 'Fuck You, Pay Me'. startup anyon

I don't get it. I thought the whole benefit of having an ebook reader was the e-ink. Until someone develops an actual color e-ink, how does this differ from a tablet with some pdf software?

Bruce Bawer reminds me of a religious zealot, having been confronted with facts forcing him to accept that the world is more nuanced than what the American post-war era he grew up in propounded. The reaction is predictable, but ensues nonet

I'm not from Germany, but the CDU is decidedly not a libertarian party. It's conservative center-right. You don't really have an equivalent of this in the US.
