I would agree. (and I'm a diehard ror guy now) I had this crufty old php4 app that started gathering dust because it was so painful to touch. The thought of rewriting all of it in ruby was just too painful, as well. (and not worth the effo

I think the answer is different for each person. I posted this link to YC a while ago but it didn't get one single upvote: http://www.amazon.com/Happier-Learn-Secrets-Lasting-Fulfillm... The author of that book teaches the single most po

Children playing with stacks of worthless currency, Germany 1923: http://sablog.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/weimar2.jpg I'm not saying it'll happen in the US, but anything's possible (especially to degrees, see current subprime crisis)

the problem seems to be that so many entrepreneurs are already dead set on an idea. unless you find the exact entrepreneur looking to do the exact same thing, you're screwed. i've tried hackrmatchr, etc. it's all guys who have a startup al

I haven't taken a look at GWT but I know of at least one ex-Googler that was trying to do a startup in Java/GWT and was hitting some major roadblocks/slowness of dev speed; they've since switched to RoR. I also worked on SproutIt's Mailroom

Did they bother talking to any Netflix Shipping Center pickers? I'd imagine that's a significant chunk of employees/temps that they employ. Via: http://www.hackingnetflix.com/2007/02/working_for_net.html "After working at Netflix for a w

Problem Scenario: I'm a hacker. That's just how I roll. Last night I built a "digg/reddit for pictures" type of site. No sweat. But now I need someone to maintain/market/add content / etc. It's a huge pain, and I'd much rather stick to

Yes but the UIs are still horrible. Someone needs to make something so easy a retarted monkey could use the thing and probably not even realize "torrents" were powering the thing.

While I totally hear you... there's not much YC should do about it. I've got myself into sticky situations befre re: money, and have had to get out of them myself. All of the money-managing books & articles I've ever read say that one o

The solution seems pretty simple then. Apply to YC and let's hypothetically assume you get in. Spend 20% of your time making this ridiculous amount of money you can make doing consulting, the rest on your startup. Problem solved. =) In al
