This is a false dichotomy. If you log things you don't need brilliant engineers spending countless hours on a logging infrastructure. All you need to do is log things to local disk, and delete some when you start to run out of space.

Yeah, I loved Everquest. But it was a different time. I was in college, had no job, had no wife, had no kid, and had no social life. I had the time to spend most of my waking hours in the game. Edit: actually, it sort of was my social li

Off the top of my head, there are two reasons people seem to de-duplicate code. One is because two or more things happen to share similar code. Another reason is because two or more things must share similar code. It seems like you ar

The funny thing being, most of the best "software engineers" are people without software engineering degrees. Because the practice has existed longer than the degree has.

There is a huge difference. On the internet, by default, you are international. Brick and mortar stores, by default, are only local. We have a website that sells stuff. It is "not available" in Europe. We do not ship to Europe.

I took the original Ford quotes regarding Apple/Tesla a bit differently. People keep these things for up to 30 years. I haven't had a car I kept for less than 10 years, and the average is over 10. There is a huge support network

I'm not sure what the recommended alternative to this scenario would be based upon your comment: I like to check invariants at certain points in my code. Them not being correct is an obvious bug. I would prefer to fail in the most ob

You're putting a lot of words in my mouth here. That said: When people serve their time we let them out of prison. But it also doesn't mean people may not still be afraid of them because of what they've done in the past. Y
