I can't believe this is still a thing.. Been complaining about this for a decade now but web design is destined to reinvent the same flawed UIs over and over forever.

If I had to guess, account people who can work with employers and future employees to get deals done once the platform does initial matchmaking. Not everything, particularly employment, can be self-serve through a website.

One reason that I've understood is if you're a smaller company that can't afford the whole IPO process, this is a way to get access to public markets in a simpler/faster/cheaper way.

I've been running a pi-hole for years and played Halo on Windows 10 and had no problems. If you add a bunch of extra-aggressive blocklists maybe you'll have issues but if you stick with the recommended OOTB lists, you'll be f

Yeah but again, it's most often not about the money... I work for a large enterprise and we pay or retain vendors to do things for us all the time, at a much higher cost than it would be to do it in house, because we cannot find/

Yep.. This is a classic example of how many subscription services have embraced user-hostile design, and focus on trying to force the behaviour they want, rather than adapt to the behaviour a paying customer wants. I will never use Spotify

Another more turnkey (but commercial) option is EpocCam by Logitech. It's a free driver download for MacOS and Windows and then a paid app for your phone (6 dollars I think) and you can use your phone as a webcam, either over wifi or U

Of course, saying "I got lucky" is not the story most successful people want to tell themselves.. I am not implying it is all luck, but there is never no luck involved in success.

> The American dream is to make it through hard work Now that's the actual con, or at least a pipe dream. Hard work is never enough. Luck plays a huge factor but few who get lucky, and then rich, will ever admit to that part.

I forget how pedantic HN can be.. You're the third comment to latch onto that one phrase in my overall comment, and it's not even that relevant to the topic being discussed. My fault, I really should have phrased that differently.
