Yep, when everything was available on 1 or 2 services, of course everyone signed up.. Canceling your $200/month cable subscription (for hundreds of channels you didn't watch) in exchange for a few $20/month on-demand service

Honestly, I feel like you zeroed in on a tiny, and insignificant, part of my actual comment which in itself feels a bit disingenuous? At least that's how it comes across to me. It's not as if using a well-known nickname for a pub

Fair enough! I guess my take here is that I see this "pay to get your replies boosted or in front of more people" is roughly the same as "pay to feel important" in my mind... I think they do know what they're doin

> I think "Pay us money to feel like you matter." could be shortened to "Pay us money." For sure, I'm just pointing to the how you convince people to do it.

I was making a bit of a joke there, sorry. It was more about the rather rare scenario of setting up a data centre in a hurry than about the long-term quality of the result. Elmo's experiment came to mind so I tossed it in there.

I wonder if we'll see this space you describe grow as AI startups and scaleups - or even internal departments in large enterprises - start to increase in number... I know there's already plenty of concerns about giving cloud-based

Yeah I came here with the same thought. Pay-to-win seems like a bad idea for Xitter (pronunciation left to the reader). Imagine if Hacker News allowed people to pay to have their replies show up first? This just tells me that Elmo doesn&#x

Words can have multiple meanings? In the market space they play in, and the audience to whom they speak, "emulation" is well known to mean software emulation targeted at dumped ROMs. And since there are lots of hardware devices o
