I can't think of a reason other than encouraging customers to continue to pay. In a 'fail closed' scenario like this one, customers not only lose the DRM protection, but SecuROM gets a customer's end users to harass the

I have two responses to this: 1. I used to administer a mediawiki instance for R&D at a mid-size enterprise software company. It was used by perhaps 300 people. Many, many developers disliked wikitext and wanted a visual editor and/

It's pretty common to run into environments without bash, or without the bash your script needs. Three examples would be any Docker container based on Alpine (just ash), OpenBSD which ships with (I think) a Korn shell, and macOS which

My experience is the opposite. 100% of the Seagate drives I have purchased for personal use (total: 4) experienced failures within the warranty period, and of the drives I had a hand in purchasing professionally at least half needed replace

More specifically, adopt a 3-2-1 scheme for data you care about: store it in three places, two onsite but on different media, and 1 offsite. Backblaze is probably as good a choice as any for offsite storage, Tarsnap is also really popular h

First - this will apply to HN users with a Keybase account who have opted in to the airdrop, not all HN users. I am not a CPA, but I think there are two things involved here (for people in the US): 1. This is a gift, but the value of it (ab

See the other comment with a link to lobste.rs, but I'm afraid this entire project exists to reimplement git as a BSD-licensed tool. My eyes were rolling pretty hard until I remembered that git was basically born out of a license disag

This is essentially what people asked Cable for all these years - a la carte service. They wouldn't or couldn't do it, so now we're getting this. There was no way content was going to let third parties basically take the plac

Maybe 'requires' is too strong a word. It's hardly mandatory, but I'd argue you should invalidate a lost or stolen seed for the same reason you should reset a lost or stolen password. Of course it is not possible to ac

I think the answer is that if you share seeds and lose a device, then you really need to invalidate and reprovision all of your remaining devices. If you use separate seeds and lose a device, you just invalidate the one device and move on.
