I wasn’t aware of there being an official anki entity as the concept seems relatively generic.

I tried two anki apps. The first didnt have file import. Some sort of cloud solution that didn't explain how it was supposed to work. On the second one, import was broken. Recommendations?

My favourite hn comment of all time. Finally, engineering and humanity meet at a sweet spot. (Yes, I’m enjoying this a bit too much.)

It appears to me that you are very strongly projecting your fears based on past experience into the future. This can already be managed at the browser layer (we didn't use to have a mute control on the tab before), and those controls w

The term for this in the field of human machine interaction is (perceived) affordance, popularized by Norman. This sounds like less active guidance than nudging or shepherding. Creating affordances is still an active design choice though.

Interesting question. Indeed "kids" may enjoy playing with anything, if considered a homogenous group. This doesn't remove the fact that basic cognitive constraints will still apply although you're targeting a different

Fun dark pattern on site : declining consent for tracking causes consent dialog to reappear infinitely on scroll. On top of a gdpr article. Oh the irony. https://twitter.com/jpegautorotate/status/123776747110658048

The rendering engine is largely irrelevant to me as a user on mobile. (Though of course having the actual one would be better.) Firefox sync is the meat of the deal.

Coding is often seen as technical/deterministic as the makers are often technical, and so the mediun is typically used in a fashion that affords scaling and regularity. There is nothing inherently deterministic about coding as a medium

The funny thing though is that the "virtually anyone" part seems to me more likely to happen with python - or with any mainstream programming language - than with what seem to me like deeply arcane shell incantations.

I'd love to read a good blog post on when to use shell scripts vs Python or other programming languages, which seem far more accessible to me.
