Not as interesting an explanation as I was hoping for. Someone accidentally typed "delete 100 nodes" instead of "delete 10 nodes" or something. It sounds like the weakness in the process is that the tool they were using

I think the answer is that as long as both sides agree to it then we let the trade go through (if uber can find someone who would exchange their time for money at the going rate, and you likewise). If the driver is frustrated that uber sets

I think we should give it a few months to see if the fact that it doesn't look good is inherent to the color or just because we've become accustomed to it looking one way for so long. I can't count the number of interface red

For another case of a great writer who is an awful human being, check out V.S. Naipaul. A beast to his wife, and not in the least ashamed of it. Here is his wife: "Last night I spoke of him letting me know the morning, nay the afternoo

I read Decline and Fall by Waugh, and it was delightful. It recounts the continuous comic misfortunes of the main character throughout his life, and ends with an extremely memorable metaphor. I assume if you're reading this comment thr

I think when a human does something it's usually not because they reasoned that it was the best thing to do, but because they asked themselves the question (subconsciously, more often than not) "is this the sort of thing I would d

It conveys more than "don't judge a book by its cover." It is making the stronger point that not only are people who are unkempt in their appearance just as likely to be good at their job, they're more likely to be good

I agree with everything you said. I use the purposefully archaic word "tribe" to remind myself that this feeling of tribal competition is based on our biology and was evolved in the distant past to solve problems that we no longer

This was a fascinating read. I myself go back and forth daily between the two positions: a) compromise and appeasement of evil is wrong, if trump and his supporters act like nazis then call them that, and b) it's totally unproductive a

I tried to do something like this but ran into two problems: 1. it's not always clear what the domain is. Sometimes a company has more than one portal to enter a login. Now I have to remember which one I was using when I created the ac

There's a lot of parking on public streets, isn't there? That's a big subsidy for car owners that comes at a cost to non-car owners.

Think of it rather like this: if a goal is hard to achieve then there won't exist a surefire solution (otherwise how is it hard to achieve?). Instead, you must work your way towards it consistently and diligently, in order to improve t
