Isn't this still a problem in a dynamic language? For example in Erlang let's say my state is the 2-tuple. In version 2 I make it a 3-tuple but it stays the same in version 3 so it has no upgrade code. Consider the same situation with an

I don't know anything about OR but I see constraint solving on there. Has anyone looked at Alice ML or Oz for solving these kinds of problems? Do they apply? Am I confused?

I found this post to be somewhat disappointing. It doesn't really have much depth to it and the claims have little backing. It's not that I don't believe the claims, they have been made before with evidence to support them, by other peopl

Just because they didn't listen to the OP doesn't mean they don't listen to other developers. Where I work we often cycle between customer-facing development and backend, we ignore what we aren't working on at the time and even then we hav

Anyone have any experience with Riak they could share? Riak seems like one of the less talked about DB's in the NoSQL arena, and I'm not sure if that is because it is bad or poor marketing or what.

Not quite sure how this affects AT&T people. My services sucks so much I could probably not even do 2GB/mo.

Interesting you find the UI to be pretty. From the stuff I saw it looked very hacked together and disgumbled. I'm looking forward to seeing an actual phone though. I have no interest in switching (I just got an Android based phone and lo

I'm not sure there is much reason to think an alternative to academia wouldn't turn into the same thing. Do you have any reason to think that a new culture would somehow break through human nature?

I think it depends on how you define productivity. I have had jobs where people (even the programmers) felt that if you weren't typing code you weren't working. In my latest job I luckily don't have managers harassing me at all and find I

Elizabeth Warren has been fairly vocal and, from what I can tell, honest in what has been going on with stimulus money. She also seems to have been fairly successful (or was last time I checked). I don't know anything about this guy but i

Sure, I'm not denying you can implement the actor model in Mozart. I just don't think it's quite a fair comparison to say Mozart/Oz does actors better than Erlang. That's just my opinion though.

Mozart/Oz does not implement actors though, they are data flow threads.
