Sure, it's a great fair-weather technology, makes some things cheap and easy. But in the face of adversity, it's a huge liability. Imagine Chinese Hackers taking down AWS, Cloudflare, Azure and GCP simultaneously in some future co

Sure, but that is also a giant weakness. Say in a future conflict with Russia or China, or hell, even North Korea. They'd only have to take down a few services to completely cripple the West - the exact case ARPANET was designed to pre

The problem is the people that sign our checks usually aren't technical, rational people. The system isn't designed for technical, rational decision making.

Cloud in general was a mistake. We took a system explicitly designed for decentralization and resilience and centralized it and created a few neat points of failure to take the whole damn thing down.

And there we go again, the Republican party - self-proclaimed paragon of the first Amendment - showing its true colors once again. Free speech for me, not for thee.

All you've done since 1945 is create boondoggles for us to deal with. Pretty much all of our problems are a direct result of your military adventurism in the Middle East. Stop fucking up our part of the world.

A) Please be kind and not a snarky asshole, it really doesn't help your case. B) Again, Obama is America in this case. Your internal squabbles do not matter to me. Obama, Trump, whatever. America is unreliable.

The "shitty anti-American attitude" is just a reaction to the shitty American attitude. Newton's third law, actio-reactio.

This treaty didn't need to be ratified as it was signed through Obama's executive authority.

Ratification is irrelevant in this case. Obama, acting as head of state, deposited instruments of acceptance for the US. Once that happened, your internal processes stopped being relevant to the international community. At that point, the U

It's got importance for the Pacific trade to the US, not the land route to Europe. It is your problem and you're not exactly being great allies to us in ours.

None of this addresses why we should see China as a threat at all. We thought y'all had our back - why should we have yours now that you've shown your true colors?

Iran Nuclear Accords (negotiated by the EU!), Paris Climate Agreement are two that come to mind concerning the EU. There's obviously more, like NAFTA.

China might be a threat to the US, but I don't see it being a threat to Europe. The fact that Americans are abandoning us in our struggle with Russia in order to pick a fight with China makes it hard to see them as reliable allies.

The thing is - the Baltic states are in our sphere of influence, so Russia messing with them is a problem for us. Tell me why we should care about some island on the other end of the world. It would make sense to begrudgingly accept it, j
