Reason I left the UK for [redacted] was lack of wage growth. My wife is earning more than double what she was in the UK (tech sector). Taxes are very similar to the UK whereas overall CoL is lower in [redacted] (for us anyway, it varies on

A friend of mine at GitHub in the UK was let go yesterday. Another friend avoided the reductions at Twitch last Friday thankfully but it seems the writing is on the wall. It is hard to make the decision to change job and lose out on a decen

Indeed it is not much different here in [redacted]. To answer your question: "Not sure why the UK is being singled out." The answer to me is simply that it is a UK website www.grocerygazette.co.uk There are plenty of similar stori

Ahh BlackICE, Kerio Personal Firewall and ZoneAlarm Pro. Those were the days! Plus the rise of the anti-spyware applications such as GIANT AntiSpyware which Microsoft bought and is now known as Windows Defender (although I don't much i

Ah yes thanks for clarifying. As I've never lived where I've needed health insurance I didn't connect the dots that way.

Thanks. I think I will reset the trial and stress test it a bit with and without LS installed to gauge for myself then. Shouldn’t take long to notice an impact. If all is good I guess I might pick it up to run with for a year and see how it

Do you find LS causes any kind of network speed impact when dealing with systems that have hundreds or thousands of connections? I often have Transmission open downloading and as I have a 2.5gbps connection it can easily hit several hundred

I’m currently on the fence about buying Little Snitch. I tried the trial for a week and interestingly there were no outboard connections I did not expect so ended up allowing basically everything. I run a limited set of applications and tha

Hi. I’m still in the process of getting to the bottom of things. My chest pains have mostly gone away but I have other issues that I recently decided I need to get checked out properly so I’m going for a couple of MRI later this month to ch

I am glad you find it useful. You may not have heard of the app rcmd before but it works nicely with Stage Manager. Might be worth checking out as I found it make Stage Manager a lot more functional. https://lowtechguys.com/

Exactly, you need a third-party tool for better management via snapping and sensible hotkeys. Windows, Gnome, KDE, etc. have all these things for years. Perhaps even over a decade by now? Microsoft even go one further with Fancy Zones in th

It really is awful isn't it. Why anyone thought a second dock on the side of the screen would make multitasking easier I have no idea. I think they did it just to be different. I believe the reason they don't bring window snapping

Sounds like you could benefit from AltTab https://alt-tab-macos.netlify.app/ It's a free, open source alt+tab replacement for macOS. Highly customisable and works well.

I agree with what you're saying but feel the issue is more durability than build quality. Apple's MacBook Pro has very good build quality but that doesn't mean it isn't fragile. The screen and trackpad are glass for exam

Not at all. Most people use Chrome as their browser. It would be trivial for Google to show a Gmail ad when you visit outlook.com using Chrome just like Microsoft are doing.

This isn’t something Windows or Linux does either. If you delete an application the user data is not touched. For example on Windows if you grab a zip for an app and just put it in Program Files (or anywhere), run it then delete it there is

Fair point. I would highly recommend to the author they take an hour and try it out. The amount of time VenToy as saved me over the past few years has to be in the 100+ hour range by now. Fantastic little tool.

The author mentions they don’t “trust” VenToy yet (they don’t state which kind of trust) my question is why? I’ve used VenToy just fine for a while now. Am I missing something?

This is exactly my experience too. A couple of days into consecutive fasting and around 15 hours into my fast it’s like my brain gets kicked up a gear and everything is sharper and quicker. It’s almost like taking a stimulant tbh.

Good question. It, like all of Paul's books, is more of a series of tutorials than a reference. I would say it is a decent place to learn how to get started with macOS app developing using either SwiftUI or AppKit. For somebody with

Paul Hudson has a decent book on macOS programming using SwiftUI and AppKit. It isn't perfect but it is a decent place to start https://www.hackingwithswift.com/store/hacking-with-macos
