At the start of the year I bought a full spec 15" MBP. Two weeks in the B key stopped working so I took it to the Apple Store and they literally gave me a brand new one. Why did the B key stop working? Apparently it was a crumb. So I h

tbh I think I might just switch to i3wm or some other twm. Seems to be my best option from what I have read.

I am surprised Apple have not extended iMessage to a web interface that relies on the iPhone iMessage app to do all the work in the same way that WhatsApp Web works. You don't lose E2EE, you keep the requirement of having an iPhone, et

Ubuntu on my new ThinkPad X1 Carbn with 1440p 14" screen is awful due to no fractional scaling. At 150% it is perfect but with the only options being 100% or 200% it is close to useless for me. Such a shame. Guess I will need to look a

Ohhh. I wasn't aware of this feature as I stopped using f.lux when Microsoft added Night light to Windows 10 a while back. Might have to check it out again.

I found the same. Eliminating the blue light was all I needed to make a big impact.

There are always tradeoffs though. I know many people who got in around the same time as me, did well and had great high paying jobs, a lovely house, car, etc. Then the crash hit, they lost their jobs and couldn't find a new one that p

If Apple were to open iMessage (both to other platforms and the spec/implementation) they could own the messaging market almost over night. Of course there is no real benefit for them in doing so though. They have no interest in being

We were 21 when we bought the house. Two incomes and a few thousand from parents towards the deposit and it wasn't really all that difficult. The mortgage was around £100 less than renting so it made a lot of sense. It was my ex-wifes

I like the idea of using VS Code for my C and C++ work but last time I looked at it I lost interest looking at the length of the setup page for tasks.json and all that to get a C++ build toolchain configured. Is this still the case? Why can

SMS works because it is universal. RCS is just another network operator based messaging service with some new features. Who the fuck wants that?! What I want is a chat system that does not rely on a mobile operator to "enable" i

Browser chrome and address bar are not an issue as I believe a PWA can run in a generic application Windows with it's own icon, etc. Similar to if you have used a Chrome Web App in the past? Unless you go looking for it you wouldn'

tbh that doesn't sound like a huge problem to solve. Setup some working folders that the PWA has R/W access to and leave it at that.

Isn't this basically what PWAs will hopefully solve? Rather than Spotify, Slack, Discord, ... all coming with their own Electron bundle they can be packaged up as a PWA and use the browser as the runtime environment along with all the

I am quite happy with OneNote from Microsoft. It has decent enough Android, iOS and web versions as well and is free. Sadly I believe Microsoft are retiring the Win32 version in favour of UWP :(

I use Spotify because it works on my TV and PS4 whereas GPM does not. I would happily use GPM but I don't want to buy new hardware to do so.

My ThinkPad X1 Carbon seems to tick all your boxes with the exception of the tablet form factor. I love this thing. I get ~12 hours battery life, can run full-fat Linux and Windows, it has a superb keyboard and trackpad (and TrackPoint!),
