Yes this happens, but it is very controversial. To quote from the article I linked above: > The question of whether the twentieth-century warming should be considered a target of model development or an emergent property is polarizing th

I will treat this as a genuine question. This is a complex topic. You could start by reading "The Art and Science of Climate Model Tuning". https://journals.ametsoc.org/view/journals/bams/98/3&#

Your point that we can check prediction against reality is well taken, but honestly I think we got lucky. Knowing what we know, 50-year-old model shouldn't have been accurate. It didn't model aerosol, which we now know to be i

Lung cancer risk was established with control group. We don't have control group for a planet so we use climate models. The article is about remembering that we use models because of lack of alternatives, not because they are as good a

LLVM has been negligent about compile time for a long time, but they are improving recently. See https://www.npopov.com/2020/05/10/Make-LLVM-fast-again.html for an example.

Neon predates N-API so it couldn't use N-API initially. That's why NAPI-RS was written. Neon now finished migrating to N-API.

People are doing that too. https://sixtyfps.io/ is basically a Qt clone in Rust, actually developed by previous Qt developers.

The main deficit here is package manager. People are not writing yet another cross-platform package managers for no reason. Providing a consistent cross-platform experience is a value add. With "use system package manager", you&#x

As I think this is a genuine question, I will answer accordingly. My build system of choice is CMake and my package system of choice is vcpkg. I will assume both are already setup. They are easy to setup on all of Windows/macOS/Li

I get the incredulity, but it is not wishful thinking. It really does work that way. Given a random Rust codebase, it is more likely than not it would parallelize with rayon, cleanly and trivially. Of course it is possible to write Rust in

Yes, but dimensionality reduction is a thing. IQ is just PCA. Intelligence is multidimensional, but it happens to have one large principal component. It could have been otherwise, but it is just not so, here on Earth with Homo sapiens.

High IQ seems to correlate with bipolar disorder, but that's about it. It's the only negative that correlates with intelligence I know about. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3705611/

It was mostly to save time. You need libc path to support macOS anyway, and by using libc you can share most code between macOS and Linux (and BSDs). Once that is done, I think Linux-only syscall path was not justified then. Now I think Rus
