The vast majority of psychopaths are not criminals. A total disregard for the thoughts of others, a lack of empathy, can be an advantage. Bankers, lawyers, politicians, even some doctors display aspects of psychopathy. When you are in hos

Prisons are the symptom, not the disease. They are the visible end result of social policies. Those policies are dictated by an elected government. It far easier to criticize prisons than to address the beliefs that create them. America

Has anyone looked at the effects not on particles, but on changes to reactivity in the presence of magnetic fields? You don't need to rip apart molecules to kill us. Make certain reactions a little more or less likely to occur and we

Ignorant? I think not. I do not want to trust a mechanical system to see me, identify me, and stop a vehicle doing 100+ kph in time not to kill me. The car in the OP is not one that supplements a driver's vision and reaction time.

As a motorcyclist I am split about these things. I don't want to share the road, to put my life in the hands of robots. On the other hand these things will make for great fun on a mountain highway such as, my favorite, BC's sea-

I wish people would put half the effort into prevention that this article puts into mitigation. Work beside a machine humming at a particular frequency and you will loose that frequency even if the sound doesn't seem loud at the time.

Bundle of sticks = Tree computing? There is another, less-PC, name for a bundle of sticks but I don't think they would go that way.

But these are writers speaking as writers, not members of the general public. Their criticisms of state-backed surveillance should therefore be different than the generalized chilling of expression felt by the public at large. Writers hav

I don't see the clear link. A writer expects that his writing will be viewed by countless others. For instance I have no fear of the NSA reading this message. Surveillance or not, this is a public forum. They don't need taps.

Yes. And Canadians still cannot watch the new Archer trailers on youtube. Is it piracy to duplicate something that has no value? If the copyright owner decides not to sell an item in a particular country, it cannot be argued that a pirate

This entire fiasco reminds me of 'The Yes Men' and their reality hacks. Claim something loud enough and it becomes the story. The story is then repeated by the media, eventually forcing a change in government policy. The claim

Really? I didn't realize it had anything to do with that. I thought it was simply about how the "short bus" looks like a normal bus from one angle, but disproportionately small from another. As in, DPRK threats look scary

If this turns out to be (1) real and (2) linked to the Sony fiasco, then North Korea has triumphed. They have taken down two enemies in a single hack: a film and an internet technology. That puts them ahead of the MPAA and the NSA combine
