I will admit that I use Slim for just about all of my PHP needs. Absolutely love it. Simple enough that I don't feel bad for just using it as a router when needed.

Not to be rude... but are you sure people fully understand this? Snapchats are supposed to be seen at most 10 seconds. Snapchat frequently has little bugs where the snap doesn't show up for it's full amount of time. I hate to say

Yep. Keep learning. Read as much as you can. Start lots of projects. Try and finish them. I am 21 and just sold my first startup while finishing my last year in college. I started programming at 13ish, and have never stopped reading and lea

I like the idea but I'm not sure I would subscribe to this business model. It's confusing. IMO, you need to simplify what you are offering and be extremely clear and up front about your plans. If you want to make money, charge for

Wow that sounds like it was quite an issue. Where are you thinking about migrating to? IMO, I can't really trust Linode anymore. MediaTemple is stupid expensive for VPS... Maybe SoftLayer? I've heard mixed reviews.

That's kind of where I'm at right now. Normally all of my side projects are hosted on PAAS (Appfog is my current choice, but we will see since their acquisition). I really just want to practice setting up and tearing down configur

Okay, I am going to summarize my thoughts here: 1) Love the domain, love the name. Simple. To the point. 2) Looks like a bad clone of the Medium homepage. Not that big of a deal, just what I noticed. 3) Needs a lot of UI work. A lot. Images

That's crazy I have a Westie also, and you are right on point with trying to find the right balance. The reason I posted this was that I love the concept of tracking the amount exercise "Toodles" is getting to see how it affects her mood. T

Just wanted to say thank you for this. I have been searching for a good article explaining the details of thinking through building an API. This really could not have come at a better time for me! Cheers!

My best attempt at explaining how it works: 1) you put in you Facebook info (which asks for friends, friends locations and the ability to post [I denied that]) 2) Your friends either see the automatic post then also log in and see what they

Excellent post on the basics! As you mentioned in your post, the real work begins once you have the algorithm in place. Scraping is a challenge as Readability, boiler pipe and so on are only so effective. Sentence parsing is extremely trick

I love tldr.io and use it frequently. Really amazes me. Of course I think this approach might be more scalable. I agree with adding a rating layer would be a great addition. Thanks!

Personally my experience is really on the web side of things. I am however looking at the option of doing an HTML5 wrapper around it so it can be published as an application in the stores. Should be an interesting path!

I know you aren't. In fact, you taking time out of your day to post here with your opinion about my site really does quite the opposite of discouraging me. Summly getting bought for that much really confuses me as well.

Peter, So funny that you mentioned github docs, as I am working on something custom for that (my sentence parsing works really bad with code... who would've thought!). You are exactly right on the potential of things that can be summarized.

Well I guess it depends on how you look at it. My goal with this version of my project is not to produce a summary that includes everything. When I approached this project I looked at it with this problem: I currently read 10-15 news sites.
