It's near impossible job to predict any trend in technology with a time frame of 5 years or so. You may find a programming language that might pickup two years from now and that might rule the world in five years. So I take it easy with cur

As soon as you talk about jobs and statically typed language, my preference goes to Java. Though there is a great market in .NET and C# but you are limited to MS platform (unless mono picks up in a big way.).

I think you should. You cannot quantify how well you know a programming language X. I have come across such questions in many interviews, and I was like "How can I say - how I rate myself in Java in scale of 1 - 10?". I now avoid that quest
