But that's even more true of the Internet at large where queasiness isn't preventing throngs of people from competing.

The adult industry seems pretty good, anywhere you have people acting economically irrational is an opportunity to make money.

Find somebody who wants to start a company in the hardware business. They don't have the luxury of building something for free and $50k might be enough to get a prototype.

It would be nice if he went back and updated some posts from 5-10 years ago, or maybe I'm just young and actually believe that things have changed in that time. :D

The sponsors could be unrelated to the topics covered. People who read tech news still drink soda and drive cars.

The voting system encourages groupthink. The Mahalo/Calacanis issue is a perfect example. No matter what Calacanis says in the comments he gets massively downvoted, that certainly sends a message to anyone who might dare to agree with him.

I can always count on Slashdot for hyperbole and misunderstanding. They are the Fox News of the tech world.

Does anybody actually believe that people will continue to use ChatRoulette? It seems like a novelty that will soon be forgotten.

I think the solution to this problem is sponsorships. If there were a network that connected sponsors to websites it would be easy for a site to find a few good sponsors and just mention them in posts bypassing the ad-blockers and getting r

You're never going to convince anybody of anything if you can't explain yourself without using jargon. To be fair though, it looks like he's written a lot on the subject so cherry-picking one piece out of context is going to cause confusion

All the downvoting actually makes finding and reading your comments in a post a lot easier. Just look for the faded blocks of text in the sea of dark letters.

Steam said that when companies cut prices in half sales went up hundreds to thousands of percent. That's in dollars, not volume either. Sure some of the increased sales come from people who don't want to pass up the deal, but still, the num

Here's a solution no one seems to consider: make video games cheaper. $50-$60 is an outrageously high price for a game, especially when most of them are of forgettable quality. The people over at Valve/Steam have been saying the same thing,

I think something like this is inevitable in our country, no matter how much primary care doctors dread it. We simply will not have enough of them to care for everybody in even the very limited way they do now. We are all used to the hour l

You're never going to scientifically prove a philosophical stance, it would be circular. Philosophy is the foundation of science, not the other way around. My view is unprovable just like his, people have to pick the one that seems right to

It seems to be that an event is either random or determined, and neither option gives us what we want out of free will. I don't think there is any middle ground, and since it doesn't seem like our decisions are random, then they must be det

I'm not a fan of compatibilism mostly because their strategy seems to be to just redefine free will to be something very weak. Of course, most debates about free will are merely debates about what free will means.
