Sorry, I should have referred to the grandparent's claim (which is also not backed by the case studies, good examples though they are).

Great link, thanks. However, it doesn't back up the claim you made. A few quotes: "In Europe, there is technically no uniform body of “European law” that directly applies between employers and employees" "Courts and scho

Educational and 100% free are not the same. It's not remotely hard to imagine them having other trade-offs to make and being most concerned with getting devices in hands. "Abomination" is ridiculous.

Keeping your best people has always been an advantage. When you keep telling them "if you don't like it, leave", sometimes they take your advice and the problems they saw still exist after they're gone.

The article is very light on details, direct link to email: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4yHnbgE5ocJbUJpWFJGYUVVajg... Is this really NIMBYism? People honestly can't stand a small utility building? It&#x

To clarify: secret chats have been present on Telegram as a platform for a long time. The desktop client doesn't seem to support them though. This often leads to people saying things like "Telegram doesn't have end-to-end enc

Today I'm reading (again) that the only battery issues are a Safari bug (which is bad at release, but presumably easily rectified). Is the CPU not also more efficient, or is the bug in power-saving, so load remains the same?

I don't think it's so obvious. Most people seem to be obsessing about the Touch Bar, which really doesn't seem like a deal-breaker to me (caveat: haven't tried it), especially with models available with real keys. If you

Yeah, massive surprise for me to see Australia/NZ not have anything dedicated. Network reliability over the whole region must be pretty poor and although in population terms it's probably too low, you'd think in purchasing po

Regardless of what you think of the tests, it might just be possible that writing poems and analysing them is not an identical skill. I'm pretty sure that most professional sportsmen can't analyse why they play a particular shot o

Most have no comments/less than 5 points or only happen to contain the word "general". Many are simply asking questions such as "what does GAI mean?" and "is it possible at all?". You can count that as hyp

Are there examples of similar things where we have failed? i.e. nature gives us an example, we expend massive resources on it over a long period of time and cannot even make substantial progress? Probably I'd just say "tech in tha

My comment was in the context of GAI feasibility - possibly "the brain" would have been clearer than "a brain"? I didn't want to exclude non-human/non-mammalian brains, even if very similar. Simulating an exist

I'm not following completely – surely there were people arguing that human flight was impossible, without strong reasons, and they were wrong? EDIT: missed "unaided". I think you can make a strong case for that impossibility

Maybe, but the employment situation still changes the dynamics. You probably couldn't get away with this argument if you worked in customer support, for example.

There are plenty of things that you can take up as a hobby which are legal (and moral or amoral) that can negatively affect your life (job, social status). You can argue that most of this is due to bigotry and missing legal protections, but

As usual, this is simply not true in general. If your system is doing 10 other things and is memory/CPU constrained then, sure, you probably know why it's taking so long. If you have 100 tabs open of which 10 are rather badly-beha

Most of the article is about GC being a set trade-offs. I don't think that's an elephant here. The official promotional wording around Go is being criticised for not acknowledging the drawbacks of the approach.
