Weird. Think you might have been on a commit that had a php in it? Or maybe it knows that you secretly yearn to write wordpress plugins?;)

Check back in a few hours. Once the "incomplete profile" marker disappears the numbers should be correct. If they are still incorrect, could you do me a favor and send me a link to the repo in question? I'd greatly appreciate it!

Can you give me a link to it to the repo in question? It should be the number of commits. Was the initial master branch you used what you uploaded to github? I'm curious as well ....

Seems like I've already started to hit my quota on some requests. If you get any weird errors, bookmark it and check back tomorrow. I'll work on getting my account whitelisted as there seems to be some demand for this =)

It seems to die on that. I'll look into it and roll out a fix as soon as the traffic dies down a bit.

Different parts have different latencies. The profile stuff is mainly directly from github. Aggregations on contributions take a while however.

The existence of a way to shard searches doesn't make scaling real time search on email (hint: do some back of the envelope calculation on how much data that involves) a non-issue.

I think all the talk of being faster than gmail search is going to last until they actually get a lot of users. It's easy to make search fast for small datasets.

I'm using Paypal Pro payments + Recurly. Between the ease of opening an account and ease of integration it made the slightly higher charges well worth it. Recurly doesn't have drop in django integration, but I'll eventually clean up and ope

Scaling a Q&A site and scaling a social network have very very little in common. StackEx is also 2 orders of magnitude smaller than MySpace at its peak.

This is basically an abdication of any attempts at making certain a patent is valid on the part of the PO. Their job will be reduced to simply checking that the format and wording is in order and making sure there's a timestamp.

see twitter's Rainbird for what a production scale solution looks like. 100k writes per second, with a huge skew in which rows get hit.

Not really. If you have a bunch of counters, you don't want a hot counter to require a transaction every time you want to increment a page view. I'm sure there's a solution in high end DBs, but in mysql/postgres UPDATE somecounter SET value

As far as "Atomic Datasets", he's referring to the ability to send off an atomic operation against a data structure. Yes, you can fake this by normalizing and storing it in a table (or any number of other permutations), but for counters, th

I haven't used openlazlo, but SmartClient is slow on the client. Ditto a lot of the current set of heavy "desktop app" client side frameworks. As soon as you get out of developer class machines things get brutally unusable.
