With the rumors about it being targeted towards reading books, with a focus on iBooks, then that size seems respectable for the low-end.

It's not necessarily a year off, but a year outside of the direct path from secondary to tertiary study. For Australians, working while traveling for a year in Europe is quite normal.

The reality is, if they are low-pay contractors, they are probably not in possession of skills that would make them worth the cost and risk of hiring full time. Labor laws protecting less in-demand workers is another issue all together.

It's not just wages, but the time it takes to find and employ a candidate, especially when the H1B quota is exhausted, and a foreign candidate cannot start work until late 2013.

Maybe the fee should be higher for low salary jobs, to prevent the visa from being used for bringing in low-wage employees for outsourcing firms.

That's all well and good for companies like Microsoft. In fact Microsoft can always hire staff into a foreign office, and transfer them to the USA after 1 year with an L1 visa (no quota), and train them as they go, if they so choose. But th

I find it curious that the same people that complain about evictions complain about high rises getting built. This sort of article gets written year after year. People have to live somewhere, any if there continues to be resistance to highe

I find it insane that the interest rates are so high (capped at 8.5%) for a loan that is next to impossible to avoid repaying, and is government guaranteed.

Caltrain does not have a monopoly to get from A to B. Soon there will be a BART connection from SF to SJ. So for those traveling the full route, there will be competition via 'tracks'. For local service there is also overlap with BART on th

You would have to build those turnstiles at each station and staff each station. There is probably a break even point for a certain volume of trains where building out and staffing the stations is cheaper, but I double they have hit that

Yes, forgetting to tag off sucks, but a conspiracy to nickel and dime you? Really? How exactly is caltrain a monopoly? And if it is one, fares pay less than 50% of their revenue, with a large fraction coming from government grants. So it wo

Monthly passes are also zone-based, so on the off chance that you are making a cash-based trip outside of those zones, you still need to tag in and out for that trip. It's been a while, but I seem to remember, if you have a monthly, you onl

I've used Caltrain+clipper quite a lot, the real issues is that there are no gates (no one forcing you to tag out), and not enough readers on busy stations. This is really an investment issue, and with Caltrain not having reliable funding f

Moving around intellectual property rather than than profits is very very old practice for tech companies. Why repatriate profits when you can use them for R&D spending outside the USA, where there may even also be an R&D tax credit

Rather than replacing manned planes, once software and AI catches up, it's more likely that a huge numbers of semi-automonous drones would get pared up with F-22s and F-35s as wingmen. It would solve the bandwidth and pilot shortage problem

Sure, but the problem is not finding the bug, it's using your users to find it. You can't rapidly deploy and iterate in minutes on the Apple App Store like you could with a web app. This is somewhat better on Google Play.

For those startups that do iterate and deploy rapidly and often is that they forget that there is no instant update on mobile devices. You can't do QA by looking at statistics of your iOS users experiencing bugs.
