Honestly, 2200 LOC is really not very much. I’ve dealt with 15 kLOC source files before, and have seen upwards of 30 before. I don’t think breaking it up would add much in the way of clarity given the volume of code, at that point splitting

I’m a little confused, how can a file name be non-decodable? A file with that name exists, so someone somewhere knows how to decode it. Why wouldn’t Python just always use the same encoding as the OS it’s running on? Is this some locale-rel

To be honest, I thought Diablo Immortal was pretty good if it weren’t for the micro transactions. The fact that it was a free game made certain parts super slow and grindy to incentivize purchases, but if it were a real game you have to buy

I’m curious why not implement websockets into Postgres natively instead of relying on a proxy server? Wouldn’t that be the way to minimize latency?

You can also dramatically reduce the latency by testing before attempting the CAS, which will switch a lot of cache line requests into Shares instead of Owns. I didn’t see it in this implementation. But the point of the wait/notify in

An interesting thing to try with the two-bit mutex is to add exponential back off. I suspect it’ll dramatically improve the latency under contention. Another interesting thing to point out is that there seems to be a crossover point between

As a kid my dad told me that I could name my variables whatever I wanted. I still remember the confusion on his face when he saw “int iPod” and “string xbox” all over my code.

Not sure how it is elsewhere, but at least in Seattle we always have pay stations set up anywhere you have to pay to park. The pay by phone app is merely a convenience, and isn’t required at all.

In StarCraft 2 there’s the opposite problem: invisible units make a slight ripple that you can pick out. On low graphics the ripple of invisible units is basically unnoticeable. But if you turn the effects setting all the way up while keepi

I think technology has advanced a lot since then. I see videos of peoples’ transactions on the lightning network being confirmed within a few seconds. It’s taken off in a lot of markets in poorer countries from what I understand.

A while ago at my company we switched from GCC to Clang, and noticed a couple of massive regressions (on the order of 50%?) in performance having to do with floating point. After profiling for a bit, I discovered that suddenly a lot of time

1000x yes. I always complain how JIRA is unintuitive, clunky, and confusing. But all of that would be fine if it were fast, because at least I’d be able to try more options faster figuring out which button it is I actually wanted to press.

The letter Z (pronounced like zed by some people) is used as a symbol of support for the war (a lot of Russian vehicles had a Z on them for some reason). Zed-turbo-patrioting is then probably the act of being extremely patriotic and in supp

The problem with your analysis is that you're using big-O notation. Big-O notation is based on an abstract machine that is pretty unrepresentative of real computers. In practice, the memcpy is always going to be faster (until you get t

I agree on some level, but I think if you’re intentional with your design you can get by with a very simple arena allocator where an allocation is a single subtraction from a pointer. In my experience, most programs have a few long-lived da
