I think the competition can drive the standard to improve. People can see improvements in alternatives that still align with their principals and adopt them. So in that regard, I don't think they are disjunct ideas.

Given that product keys and activation servers are forms of DRM and not anti-cheat. I'd say that anti-cheat is effectively a subset of DRM, as it prevents unauthorized changes to the binary, typically.

It used to be the case that they were all keys that aren't technically allowed to be resold per their agreement. Either OEM or business copies and the like. So really we're back to some form of piracy because Windows is too expens

AFAIK, and I could be wrong, beeper mini registers a new HWID with apple for each phone. Which is why they thought it was unpatchable, at first, as they would need to determine which phone is in fact an iPhone.
