Oh that sucks. Yeah Qt has gotten really aggressive with their licensing headaches. They broke so many of our CI scripts when they made it mandatory for you to log in to use their Qt installer even for online version. And yep. Relying on ju

Oh it really depends on your use case and the hardware you use for embedded devices. If all you need are some buttons and some kind of static lists, lvgl should be fine too. But for anything where you want things like smooth scrolling/

The big one being - when you install just an application, you don't want it to accidentally pull in the wrong dependency and destroy the rest of your system. This is a big problem when you use ppas or .debs directly from the app develo

Yep. It's a problem when building mobile applications too. Especially for iOS. Sailfish OS was stuck on Qt5.6 for a long time because of this.

The main problem with LGPLv3 is the anti-tivoization clause. That means you should basically provide the end user a way to replace the Qt libraries with their own. On embedded systems this can mean headaches for companies releasing commerci

With QML/QtQuick all/most of the ui is rendered on the GPU though. That leaves the CPU free to perform other tasks. Even at 1080p 60 fps your CPU usage sits under 10% on cheap iMX6 devices. With lvgl it looks like it doesn't

I feel you. In fact after a decade of mostly C++ / Qt jobs, I've realized it's time to move away to other tech. More companies i worked with are avoiding Qt where they can. And even i was getting tired of creating the same Qt

I've used Qt for developing a few desktop apps, a couple of mobile apps and while working on a few embedded systems. The good: 1. Their QWidgets library is very stable and mature for cross platform desktop applications and i can still

I've worked on a couple of d-pad only uis using QtQuick, Including for a set top box. Gstreamer's qmlglsink works quite well with zero copy video playback. So CPU usage sits at 5-10% for a nice UI overlaid on top of a 1080p video

Ahh interesting. Would love to see a comparison between gtk4 widgets vs. qtquickcontrols 2.0. From the looks of it, gtk 4 seems to have come a long way since I last tried: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=slIhZwmMv1g And more

Could it be that heating issues are also because of the choice of their UI toolkit? It looked like they're writing their apps in gtk, using the CPU for any animation and rendering - as opposed to some OpenGL solution that would do this
