recvfrom_into is meant to be used with bytearrays, which can give you a performance boost by avoiding one extra copy of the received data. You don't need ctypes to use it.

libuv would just be the transports, can't those be built on top of the TCP and Pipe handles exposed by it?

Out of curiosity, was libuv ever considered as the underlying i/o library? Looks like some problems at a quick glance (named pipes for instance) are already solved there.

Qt is not going anywhere. I recently attended Akademy and the current QtCore maintainer, Thiago Macieira, showed some interesting stats: over 40% of the commits in the past few months (IIRC) came from non Nokia people.

I disagree here. The iPhone already supports this functionality for VoIP applications: they maintain a persistent TCP connection in the background and when you get a call the app is activated again. The way email push works (IMAP IDLE) is t

Well, then you need to implement your own discovery and routing mechanism. It might just be a web page a la ChatRoulette, but something is needed. Phono uses XMPP for this (IIRC), which opens the window for really cool integration with ex

Totally agree. My workaround for this at the moment is to use Yahoo Pipes ( http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/ ) and filter my GiHub feed which I then read with an RSS reader. Not ideal, but it gets the job done.

I'm happy to see someone ranting about this, I couldn't agree more. This was solved years ago in the VoIP world by ENUM, but it didn't get enough traction because nobody can earn any money with it. Here is how it works: your phone "number

I actually use apt-get because I like to keep my system with the least amount of packages installed. I don't need any of the "recommended" packages, and if I do I'd install them manually. Also, I usually use deborphan to find orphaned packa

Be honest and realistic. Stuff like "we will disrupt the XYZ market" is not something that happens every day, so only say things like that if it could really happen. And even then, think twice.

I completely agree. Dropbox made a huge mistake. Dropbox is run by humans, and humans make mistakes, that's life. But when it came to communicate the issue they screwed up IMHO. I shouldn't need to subscribe to their blog RSS to know this

About taxes: yes, they are high, very. But, if you play your cards right you can get the '30% regeling', which means 30% of your salary is tax free. IIRC you can get it for 4 years, and can be extended to 10.
