If you're going to submit your own app, here are some tips: 1) Link your homepage. HN allows you to title your submission and we'll forgive a teensy bit of valuable keyword stuffing in your submission if it's descriptive. Your homepage

Yeah, let's be pretty clear: even if you built about.me, you weren't going to have an exit as good as this one because you weren't already a known quantity to AOL (as Tony Conrad was). I will also say that flavors.me launched before them,

29th or 30th is my vote; however, I'm busy at night, so my vote would be for an afternoon meetup on either day. If that's not an option, I suppose y'all can consider this an out-of-town vote for Rahm.

There are precious few people who can both blog and write long-form well. The Atlantic employs three: Andrew Sullivan, Ta-Nehisi Coates, and James Fallows. I don't understand the Wire, and they've done some crazy redesign things that they'

Twilio have been more visible and active - Tropo seem slightly behind in evangelism and generally pimping their product. 1) I wouldn't say "slightly". 2) Twilio's great at it because Danielle was employee #1 at Twilio. Marketing and eva

Nuclear power and GMO crops have the same issue for liberals like me: when they fail, they fail in catastrophic fashion. We've already had Cherynobol and Monsanto's "Terminator" seeds getting out into the wild. To paraphrase badly, libera

I'm saying every startup that hosts their checkout pages in the cloud is - by definition - in violation. If you know a startup that accepts credit cards and doesn't have the secure server that accepts the credit card input on a rack somewh

I want to see TCU crash the party, but I really wanted to see TCU vs. Boise crash the party. But Kelly's pass fast offense versus Malzahn's run fast offense would be amazing .

This was smart. Let's be clear: Google needed Groupon's local advertising smarts more than Groupon needed anything from Google. It's not like free AdWords would change the limiting factor on the Groupon model - the limiting factor on the

OK, I'll bite. I will do a long bet that Dropbox either 1) IPOs or 2) has a $750MM+ exit by 2014. I can't guarantee that Dropbox IPOs the way that LogMeIn did, but the $750MM hedge is there to say that Dropbox is worth more to Google than

It's pretty silly that Hotpot doesn't use the geolocation feature in some browsers. Also, it's kind of bizarre that even with the non-standard design, you can just tell this is a Google product by the colors, font, and spacing of elements

HFS, I never knew about Chrome's full page option. Congrats, you won my business. Note: this is exactly like how 25% of AOL's support tickets involved issues with Windows. Remember, your users are always dumber than you are.

Pony request: change the size of the canvas. On my 13" MBP at 1280x800, there are highly-fucking-irritating scrollbars for the canvas. This fucks me up a lot. I'd love to be able to resize the canvas or "zoom out" so this didn't happen.

This is false. VWO lets you do A/B testing without code. SEO is about making content and asking for links. Marketing online requires math, but certainly not any code.
