I don't think anyone disagrees with that. The point of the analysis is to answer the question "if you're a team that has identified a promising market and looking to build a product, where should you be?"

Don't forget that this data excludes angels. My feeling is that CA companies tend to get way more seed/startup money from angels than do MA companies, where firms like Flybridge, Atlas, etc. do early stage investing.

I've told the story before: when I was a VC, a deal almost fell apart because the California Secretary of State rejected the new articles of incorporation after the funding. They didn't like the voting structure for some bizarre reason. In

We're trying to build that perfect market for used games at http://www.dawdle.com . No, seriously, we have market orders and limit orders (we call them StandingOffers). The best cite was an OMX report that $1 billion in U.S. new game purc

You know, if Yahoo actually took advantage of the fact that people have multiple accounts on its service, some active (Flickr, Mail), some dormant (delicious, upcoming), and really fucking figured out a coherent user profile strategy, they'

If you can legally work in Canada, you're insane if you don't try to get into this program. $150K - 10x what YC does, but still with buy-in from top-tier US VCs? Eight months to just get to ramen profitable (not paying back the $150K)?

Here, actual proof - from an MIT economist - that health care is hurting entrepreneurship. Money quote: "Americans who have an alternative source of health insurance, such as a spouse’s coverage, are much more likely to be self-employed th

You know, I'd try this, but the hard part is that the processing is still on me (and I can't code, so I'm SOL). That, frankly, is the hard part, is it not?

Um, the fact that there is a HOWTO tell the difference tells me that there isn't really much of a difference in real-world visual impact. Sure, Helvetica kerns a lot better than Arial, but the vast majority of people don't see the differe

Depends, actually. If you're familiar with Dave's AARRR, referencing "pirate metrics" is enough to have a conversation with many, many people. It doesn't describe the content in a literal fashion, but as a name for something to be discuss

Found via PEHub: http://www.pehub.com/50745/atlanta-georgia-startup-killer/ The paper itself isn't quite as strong as the PEHub headline, but I'm pretty sure that's how the authors are selling it to the press.

Dude, you've been taken advantage of. You did all the hard work; while your friends may have brought the idea to the table, they're not invested the way you are. Your friends are the assholes who give "business guys" (like me) a bad name.
