The corporations are the roots, and the govt represents the branches. Seeing it the other way around is delusional. If "another provider" is not marginally more beneficial, why would you switch? Or put another way, how would "another provi

You can cancel your service, sure. But if you need a landline, then you're forced to go to another provider who does the same exact pricing trick. So there really is no choice at all.

Let's hope it stays that way -- I don't want Apple to fail anymore than anyone else. Tim Cook is a fairly dim bulb, though, just a paper-pusher with a bad temper. I hope he doesn't get in the way of those at Apple with real talent.

Good point, and I'd much rather believe that this is the reason than something more dire.

I will gladly bet $100 on that Apple, without Steve Jobs' help, will create a new product in the coming decade that'll revolutionize Maybe, but skeptics will probably be right to doubt it. Many had similar hopes as yours when Steve was fi

We have art galleries (see SF MOMA in particular), but the Bay Area is less about indoor venues and more about the incredible variety of natural beauty that is all around it.

Nothing annoys me more than this kind of analogy. People who are trying to understand it can't figure out what a Duck really is in this scenario, and what it means that it's a subclass of Bird. Use simple but realistic classes as examples.

I suppose some of it is attributable to Asperger's -- some of it. In many cases, though, I can't help but suspect laziness and a holier-than-thou attitude.

Its funny that in 2008 - we see posts like "RIP Good Times" - http://techcrunch.com/2009/10/06/r-i-p-good-times-one-year-l... . - and yet nothing - fundamentally - came of it. I want you to be right, but didn't something come of it? Didn

I don't believe that technology has suddenly killed millions of jobs. No, it's fear. Banks are afraid to lend, and so SMBs can't expand. Corporations, sitting on trillions of dollars, are afraid to hire because they think it's too risky. Ca
