I'm mildly depressive. Mental issues are very common among smarter people. Meaning: you're quite normal. :-) * see a psychiatrist and possibly get on a drug. Can be very helpful. * see a therapist * start a regular exercise program and stic

Interesting work. Looks like your value prop vs. SL is that your world is more straightforward and simpler (in a good way). I.e. most people going to SL really just want to chat and goof around and don't need the complexity.

It doesn't need to be black-and-white. If you aren't thinking at all about running the business then you're going to go through a lot of unnecessary pain. Better to hire developers (who aren't blind to production issues) and then maybe more

Step 1: Be Guy Kawasaki Step 2: Spend about $10,000 more than you need to because you're already independently wealthy through non-startup means (read: AAPL) Step 3: Get much more attention for your startup than most people would because yo

I realize this article is a little incendiary but please don't throw logs on the fire. Python isn't for everyone -- only for people who like it when a space has syntactic meaning. ;-)

Perhaps, but until several people you know have been out of work for 2+ years and have dwindling savings, we ain't in no depression.

She may not be the "type" -- and I respect her -- but you have to call it for what it is: overreaction. We are not even in a recession, as the previous poster points out. How can Helen see years into the future and declare, brazenly, that w

Not exactly a computer magazine, but I was so in love with Omni that I have actually stockpiled two or three years' worth of issues from the late '70s (via ebay). God I wish Omni could return; the world could use it.

Although it wasn't a computer magazine, I do see your point. I often wish RU Sirius would start a new post-cyberpunk publication of some kind. Mondo 3000? Mondo 2100?

I loved Byte and Creative Computing; they were the hallmark of my early computing days. (This also gives away my age. Sorry.) Missing from that era might be: People's Computing Company magazine and Dr. Dobb's Journal (yes, it was around in

Blogga please. It reads like a tabloid. Visual communication is non-existent. The reasons people read Drudge are: 1) they love gossip, and 2) they hate non-conservatives. It's not because of the (lack of) design. I hereby openly dare anyone

Generally speaking, that's a fair statement. But when a whole bunch of companies suddenly do layoffs you have to ask yourself if it's just another fad. They're not all running out of money at the same moment that the press is going hogwild

False choice. Rand usually makes valid points in her novels but tends to wildly overstate them (perhaps in order to underscore her points). Gladwell may be somewhat reductive in his reasoning, but certainly social and environmental factors
