It’s telling us that people will do almost anything to get same-day releases – and that they’re willing to both pay wads of cash and break the law at the same time to get them. That's the entire point, right there. It is stunning to me th

I agree with you that IFTTT and Zapier are simpler solutions to more common needs, but man, Pipes is really powerful. It's more like a language than an automation framework. I don't know if it will ever make any money, but it's a hell of se

I uses Yahoo Pipes for a project of mine—I depend on it, in fact. It's really useful if you're doing something service-based, say, if you need to make an RSS feed out of a website, or otherwise manipulate data. YQL (Yahoo Query Language)

I came here to say exactly that. I stopped reading HN as often because it seems like every time I read a Show HN post, or, well, practically anything, someone is trying to crap on someone else's effort. Here's a guy who has a nice story to

It is indeed bullshit, particularly because there is no defensible, practical reason for that kind of regulation. This is little more than "you wanna do business? grease my fuckin' palm" on the part of city government.

It's up to the developers and you, the operations/devops people, to work together to make it chaos-monkey-proof. No engineering team is an island.

Likewise, implying that Mayer was somehow innovative in starting a program that was already widespread in large companies—that is ridiculous. I have yet to hear anything about Melissa Mayer that is actually innovative or impressive.

I doubt it. They've shown questionable judgement merely by hiring Mayer, whose accomplishments at Google are not especially respected among those with inside knowledge, and whose priorities will shift wildly after she gives birth in October

She's a showboat, IMHO. This is based on personal observation and insider info. She's quick to yell about how great she is, but you don't see a lot of unbiased people talking about her contributions to technology or to Google. She has her o

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Sergei and Larry wanted her gone, period. She has had a lackluster career at Google, and they may have gladly watched her move out of the way.

As someone who has been underwhelmed by Ms. Mayer since her early days at Google, I think this is just another desperate attempt to save the ailing Yahoo. It will fail, and she'll be out in less than a year.

Maybe, but I didn't realize it, and I'll bet others don't either. Significant because of the accumulation of bad days, and because of the company's apparent hubris and possible over-valuation.

This flat-out does not make sense. We all may hate IE6, 7, and 8, but a vast number of people still use it, and leaving them out just means alienating an audience and customers. Why do it? Spite?
