I, for one, welcome the copyright trolls. It can only quicken the complete reform of the copyright/patent system and the partial or complete destruction of the "intellectual property" industry.

I really should not have been so surprised. The article may seem offensive to people who are not especially interested in doing a startup; it demands that they question their own motivations, and some people are quite content working for Th

I define it in a different way, and in more practical terms. Being rich in America means not having day-to-day concerns about money. Sure, the rich need to worry about their riches. But not like most of us who are far to close to becoming p

You're right, of course. I was just surprised to see naysaying on a site that has such a strong startup vibe. To the startup side of HN, this article is just another "me too" piled on top of dozens of copies of itself every month True. I

I think he meant to imply that one scrolls through RSS feeds using a news reader. He wasn't being literal.

All this naysaying and negative, defeatist thinking: this is exactly why you will not succeed in a startup. Positivity is a necessary -- albeit not sufficient -- factor in creating something new.

I know it's not as simple as "the tea party, pro-ignorance, anti-science, pro-middle-ages movement is responsible for this." But there is no doubt in my mind that the rise of anti-vaccine ignorance played a good part.

If you think Chicago has "great food" then you need to try some real restaurant towns (i.e. SF and NYC). Chicago's idea of great food is thick-crust pizza. The parks don't compare to most other cities', and if you want genuine blues music,

My mom may have meant ASA rating instead of shutter speed. Actually, both, right? If you have slow ASA film, you'd need to keep the shutter open longer to expose it, right?

My mom was in born in 1929, and she once told me that people didn't smile in photographs in that era because shutter speeds were slow. Smiles would end up as blurs, so people were encouraged not to do it.

Please. Chicago has no culture, no vibe, no personality. People there are, by and large, spending their adulthoods trying to overcome their religious upbringing. The weather sucks, the business climate is mainly stuck in the 1930s. There's

I "third" this sentiment. This was Nolan teasing us a little bit, but at the very last second, the top was starting to fall over. The true indication that this was reality is in Cobb's ability to see his children's faces.

Fun ideas, but this is over-analysis. The movie is as it appears to be. There is no justification for taking a minor aspect of the plot (that the dream-sharing device is only briefly explained) and using it to concoct a whole new layer unde

If this was actually an implementation of "my network, my rules," I suppose it would be OK. From what I've read, though, it's not. It's "my Internet, my rules." Just like RBL, if some random sysadmin decides he doesn't like your domain name
