Do you think Party Rounds are good or bad for the entrepreneur? Given the description in the post, how could they be bad?

Well, yeah. I just want it to be the default instead of having to remember to hold down the command key to open in a new tab. It's a petty complaint, I do realize. :-)

I love HN and spend way too much time on here. Three things that disappoint me: * dog-pile downvoting on comments that are valid but that others may merely disagree with * the practice of killing apparently valid stories with no explanation

In this context, Rand was merely acting as a reporter.

The lesson here: if you have a tendency toward perfectionism, like me, fight it . Produce things, a lot of things. Let your abilities develop by actually producing. Don't try to make One Great Thing. You're probably wrong about which thing

It makes logical sense (i.e. I understood the meaning of the whitespace-delineated blocks). I'm really just saying I don't prefer the style.

I am certainly not a believer, but this kind of skepticism == unscientific bias. He's cherry-picking reports. I have seen plenty of modern reports of UFOs moving at incredible speeds, including one from about 10 years ago from NORAD.

Perl makes sense. It's a matter of degree of sense, and personal opinion. Python's use of semantic white space doesn't make any sense to me. But I know plenty of sane people who disagree with me.

In summary: not dead yet because of all the legacy code and because of the "Modern Perl" movement. However: many of us believe that Perl's day has come and gone and that truly modern languages like Ruby and Python have supplanted it. Absolu

I like the fact that they do the diff format. This sentence is now crossed out, and I find that a little frightening: At Google we recognize that privacy is important.

Read the true stories of (so many!) entrepreneurs who failed, failed, learned, learned, failed, and then succeeded. Exercise 5-6 days per week, 20-40 mins per day. Aerobic, weights, whatever. Don't over-do it; exercise is not punishment. Ho

I have been making the point lately that the stories that are killed -- either by autokill or by editors -- should be updated with a hint about why the kill happened. I don't want to help spammers figure out how to spam HN more. But I am co

I know why I'm not crazy about them: they don't make you much money. At least, in my case, Adsense and Adbrite haven't done much for me.

Freaking hilarious. And if it's not a real business, it should be. Seriously. If I was a bible-believing member of the Rapture Right, I'd want my pet taken care of after I was taken.

My point has nothing to do with spammers or URL shorteners -- that was just an example. See above if you care to know my actual point. But this is probably related. I think the anti-spam measures are probably going too far. I'm not a spamme

The URL shortener was just an example -- just one example. My point is not about bit.ly or anything like it. My point is: there are apparently a bunch of rules, and I don't have the sense that I understand them. Worse, I have the sense that

What do you need the URL shortener for? Actually I don't use them here; never have. I just noticed a post having been killed, and saw a followup from HN staff explaining that using a URL shortener will cause a post to be autokilled. I don

I don't see HN going downhill in terms of submissions or in discourse. Things are mostly the same as they were 2-3 years ago. I do worry -- perhaps unnecessarily -- about the killing of submissions for no obvious reason. Apparently using a
