Will Netflix Destroy the Internet? American broadband capacity might not be able to keep up with everyone who wants to stream movies. Blogga, please. If it can't, then (as others have pointed out) the infrastructure will have to grow. It

I'm glad this guy took a chance and that it worked out for him. I can't speak for all members of Generation X, but this member is a little tired of how much GenY is being picked on. Lazy, selfish, slovenly, worthless -- everything that we w

S4 is a general-purpose, distributed, scalable, partially fault-tolerant, pluggable platform that allows programmers to easily develop applications for processing continuous unbounded streams of data. I'm sure this is cool and useful tech

Percona's is probably the closest to the MySQL people are looking for; Percona is the premier MySQL consultancy, and they've patched the codebase for performance, etc.

I just wish _why would come back, regardless of the reasons he left (wanting to be anonymous). Those of us who like him do so regardless of whether we can find out his 'real' name. The character of _why is larger than that.

Thanks for posting this! I have a physical copy at home. This is from a time that was similar to now, when hackers were building things and showing them off. I'd say I miss those days, but right now is a pretty good time to be a hacker. Pet

Sounds like there is a useful set of books that you'd like to suggest -- suggest it on the (HN Books) site!

Truly wonderful. It's already been a valuable resource for me. Feature request for those of us who may be checking in from time to time: is there a way to see books recently added to the list? Would be really useful.

I suggested David Burns' book (Feeling Good)for just the reasons you're stating. CBT treats the symptoms more than the root causes, but from what I can figure, he's in crisis and needs to work on the symptoms first. This is good advice you'

I know some clinically depressed people. This is not it. I have doubts about your attitude and about your ability to diagnose illness.

You are being insensitive and unhelpful. Clinical depression is not caused by bad events or circumstances; it's a serious illness. He's not whining, and he's not a brat; he is having a real problem that requires real treatment.

I agree on finding a good therapist. However, you can and should also help yourself. Suggestions: pick up Feeling Good by David Burns. It's exceedingly practical and will help you quickly. Start an exercise program. It does not need to be a

A replacement for Drop.io is already in the works, I imagine. (And Dropbox won't cut it for a lot of people; it's not as straightforward to do a simple fileshare, and there are other cool features [e.g. RSS] that Dropbox doesn't do.)

What the typical Hollywood writer doesn't understand is the computer people up north also build things for fun. They understand the idea of doing something for fun, but seem to think it only happens in the film/TV industry.

The points made in this piece are very good ones but it is not primarily an issue of intelligence - rather, it is mostly about one's point of reference. Exactly. More simply put: people aren't stupid; they just don't think the way you do.
