I tried feeding some of the phonetically spelled stuff into google translate and it was completely lost at sea. So no worries about the claim this could stuff up NLP/search, then.

Is it still fair if they end it in 2 months? Anytime someone calls something fair, I wonder if the question "for whom?" should be asked. Seems to me like those in HK have no real control over their fate, whether as part of Britain

The amount of hair-splitting that goes into discussing this subject is unbelievable. Clearly, they both are fairly closely intertwined - particularly given that one potential explanation boils down to the motivation of the user. So do we ne

Don't we already make an excess amount of food on earth? This seems handy for off-planet, though.

I agree that the racists on 8chan who are in favour of mass shootings are still racists on 8chan in favour of mass shootings. That needs to stop, and this alone doesn't achieve it. But society drawing boundaries about their behaviour i

I'm aware of that but nonetheless believe it's a step in the right direction and that they should be congratulated. I don't think this means anyone should give them an easier time as a result. Countering radicalisation involv

There are already people doing that stuff. Given that's the case, why should they not act?

Seems to me like a lot of the arguments against why this shouldn't happen or isn't effective basically amount to some sort of whatabouttery. Well done Cloudflare, I hope their next host takes the same attitude or can be induced to

Is there actually a decent alternative to JS for front end stuff? Another part of the solution to this language turning into the blob monster from the end of Akira surely has to be making those with an interest in the language's succes

I think that argument is advanced by a fair few companies to justify losing money indefinitely. A tweet (which I now can't find), once said that "the ability to sustain losses indefinitely is the 'moat' of this economic

High-velocity ecosystems like this make it way too easy to optimise your code for getting pats on the head. It's good that people are pointing out things like this (relatively speaking) not long after the fact, and that a lot of people

I watched the announcement and it seemed like more talk than action. A few new inquiries to report in a year or so and a new unit in the ACCC for big tech companies to capture. Not much new legislation, though.

I accept that, but policy seems to enforce single family home neighbourhoods in many places. This exacerbates the problem of haves and have-nots in the housing market. I'm not in the "ban SFH neighbourhoods" camp, but I think

Totally, I think there are a lot of cases where all that machinery is actually completely superfluous anyway because thinking about the problem you're trying to solve could lead you to a way of doing it that doesn't need all that
