"Except in this case nobody is holding a gun to anyone's head." No, I flat out reject that notion. The fact that one must have a job to survive in this world removes the ability to chose "not having a job". The illu

Freelancers had the ability to set their price. With most of these gig apps, you have exactly zero say in how much is being charged.

"Consent" is tricky in this situation, because for many, it's do this or starve.

Blaming the victim for being discriminated against isn't going to help anything.

Well, not so bad if we use the mirror to reflect on ourselves and our biases, and work to negate them. Fairly bad if they're used for recommendations and for rankings.

I don't see it being any more or less viable than getting everyone on Git.

I don't believe that argument is relevant to the discussion.

Hg actually cared about the user interface. Git didn't.

Gcc for the longest time was the only open source C/C++ compiler. It worked fine, but you really could not consider it "polished", despite a lot of people being affected and interested to make it good. It wasn't until LL

I think the other way; git doesn't have much to offer over Hg, so we should all be using Hg.

So jump on Hg, and get everyone to do so. Problem solved.

But, why would Amazon want to do that? Right now they get a lot of brand recognition from doing it themselves.

Not true. You can set limits on how much people can purchase. And you're assuming that more would be wasted by the first to get there, and assuming that the rich wouldn't waste any.

Your scenario is completely wrong given that most places will put limits on how much you can buy. And you say you're making fewer people suffer; I say you're disproportionately forcing the poor to take the brunt of the suffering.

By encouraging price gouging, you're saying only the rich deserve these life critical supplies. I find that far more unethical than price capping.

Non-competes offer no benefits whatsoever to employees, and should be banned outright. There is zero legitimate reason that an employer should have any say whatsoever on what someone does after that employer stops paying them.

Calling bullshit on an argument that is not made from fact is not being uncivil. I'd argue that making an argument that is such bullshit is far more uncivil than saying the word "bullshit".
