I'd argue for making this mandatory in your onboarding. It can help so much more than random training sessions and seniors mentioning this in code review. It's a simple shift in thinking that most people should just get.

Yeah, I think for me it's almost entirely the trackpad that's the dealbreaker still. There isn't a single laptop that I can use linux on where the trackpad just doesnt suck. I'll tolerate the noise and the subpar display

I use a similar approach, but with a VSC extension. I use this one: https://github.com/fabiospampinato/vscode-todo-plus , although I bet there are plenty others and for your editor of choice.

A simple test for people is to get used to working 3 hours straight without any distractions. Give it a try. You can get a whole day's work done this way.
