Me too, 1 month ago: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31827449 I was finally lucky enough to find someone on Fiverr. I will be using Fiverr a lot more now. Upwork and Toptal have been a total disaster for me.

Depends on what I'm doing. If I'm working on my usual BE stuff, I'd probably go for years - I can't remember the last time I googled something about this. If you ask me to do frontend work I'd probably get stuck wit

The official docs are really good. As a BE dev I find Tailwind to be really easy to use. Here is the grid doc: https://tailwindcss.com/docs/grid-template-columns

Yeah, I don't mind being labelled as a "bootstrap website". Now that I'm thinking, I could probably drop Bootstrap and use jQuery + Tailwind. I'm much more comfortable with Tailwind and I find it more flexible.

You don’t actually want that, I think. In practice systems start small, and stuff is added to them gradually. I consider this as a much bigger challenge than designing a “complex” system right from the start. The trick is to be able to keep

A friend asked me to help him set up some software. He shared the screen for me to watch. He Googled the software, clicked on the first link - an ad to some blog with Top 10 software for X. Then, in under 3 seconds, he accepted all cookies

> We tell them that they're free to do something about it. Ha, this is actually a good idea that I didn't consider. I'll push for this, thanks!

Exactly. My favorite part is how they discover stuff like "SSR" and "serverless" now, both being concepts as old as the web.

People back out of the hiring process because we don't use new stuff. This really is a problem for us atm.

That's fine, but what do you do when your applicants back out of the hiring process when you tell them you use React 15? I guess all we can do is upgrade, specifically for this reason.

Well, I'm employed as a software architect and we're currently using Spring and Symfony. Very different languages and very similar frameworks. In my free time I play around with Go and some NextJS stuff.

I can't keep up with this stuff anymore. As a former "full stack" dev, I just quit the frontend part altogether and I'm now just focusing on the backend. It's just too much and changing too fast.

Agree. I was 12 when I first discovered programming, and it was through JavaScript. And the fact that I could instantly see the result of what I'm doing by running it in a browser (which everyone already has), it's definitely what

Yes! I had ~5 Google Workspace subs I wasn't using, cancelled them all. I also cancelled the auto renewal for about 10 domains which I know I'll never really use. Other subscriptions I recently cancelled are Canva, a bunch of VPSs

My friends quit because they can't see the value of programming immediately. You start by learning variables, how to multiply 2 numbers, how to print text to the console etc. So they fail to understand how that can be useful when their

I'll take a guess and say your websites don't require a deep level of customization. The hate comes when devs are asked to make wordpress work in ways wordpress wasn't built to work. And plenty of people here are devs, so I i

This looks very similar to the deliverables I get from my UX designers. And then I get a $400 bill with “Research on choosing the fonts”, the fonts being Roboto.

Thank you. This seems like an extension to the already existing TELECOM laws across EU, where the companies must provide customer information if requested by the gov. I think I recently saw something about "web hosting" companies

Does anyone have a tldr? Respectfully to the author, I don’t have the patience to read through this blog post full of metaphores and anecdotes. So what happened?

Yes, a software agency makes less money if the people they employ are actually good at the job.

This isn't specific to your security field, it's all over the B2B software space. Everyone's an expert on everything, and they're selling based on their branding or how good their sales people really are. It also helps t

Can you give an example of something that would be more than just a CRUD? To me everything feels like CRUD, that's why I'm asking.

The HN board doesn't profit from advertising (at least not in the common, public way). If you're asking why others have changed and this didn't, I think that's the reason.

I can't make up my mind if this is good or bad. On one hand, FAANG has a huge advantage over anyone else on the market, but they did build that product and they did spend their own money to do it. I'd be curious if there are any o

Do you have any previous experience with programming? Because if you don’t, leaping from HTML + CSS to JavaScript is a huge task. JS is programming, the others aren’t. I know people tend to put them together because that’s the regular FE st
