Maybe we have different definitions of bacon but isn't it heavily "processed"? Its cured with nitrates and salt/sugar and smoked.

So far 100% of my inreach use is texting family, I bought it for emergencies but so far (luckily) haven't needed it for that. I'm confident that it will work well enough in that situation that I don't need a PLB.

That works until you eventually get something, which unless you are completely isolated you probably will and based on the article the longer you escape the worse it will be because you are immunologically naive.

I found even typesetting math was a struggle for the layout, I still have nightmares of getting equations for my wife's PhD thesis split nicely across 2 lines.

I hate digital menus. I don't like being on my phone when I go out for dinner (unless I'm by myself) and looking at a nice menu was part of the experience.

You'd need to make sure there is no grid nearby. If you were completely off-grid and away from power lines or anything then you'd have no signal at the mains frequency. Certainly possible. Probably easier to just use a filter to m

You don't pick up the hum from being plugged into the mains. Nearby equipment generates sound at the frequency (and harmonics) which are picked up by the microphone. Various other equipment is sensitive to the EMF. As others mentioned

I've read articles which I'm an expert on and found them generally quite good. Some very niche things often have really limited content but usually not wrong. I've fixed the odd thing here and there.
