Can you explain in more detail how this recompilation works? When is it triggered? Because your emulator is still very slow, and recompiling doesn't seem to help. A wiki or blog post would be helpful.

Many thanks for the information! This is really confusing.

I took ssh only as an example as curl has the same dependency. But thanks to @Beltalowda it is obvious, that the lib64/openssl3 does not belong to openssl.

Java Reactive works around the shortcomings of the platform by basically inventing its own language inside Java. A high cost for the developer. Under the hood, the virtual thread feature does more or less the same as reactive. Async calls v

Thanks. The website is fast because most of the code is written in plain C and compiled to WebAssembly. No libs or frameworks are involved, not even libc. The memory allocation code is three lines in total. The emulator runs also outside of

Yes, even in the proof of concept, you could have simply added an offset parameter when defining the memory area. They did not.

Well, the WASM binary format uses variable-length integer encoding. You can see this as an enhanced version of near and far pointers.

WASM is not designed to work around the shortcomings of C. The fact that nowadays the program crashes with a segmentation fault error after a null pointer dereference is only because modern operating systems are being nice to you. But a pro

Author here, nice to see this project on Hacker News. Another project of mine that needs a complete overhaul after years of neglect. If you want to hear the output you can directly go to https://simulationcorner.net/index.ph

The calculations is based on the machine instructions, the compiled code by the JIT is able to perform on average. In this case a simple 32-Bit machine with OpenRISC architecture. For the proof of concept, that was the compiled code in [1].

It is definitely not "just" a JIT compiler. For example, you can't just copy QEMU's JIT solution and hope that it works. So I'm interested in your solution. For example, do you compile each code block (from jump to

If the title is true, that would be a huge achievement. Unfortunately, the page says nothing about how it works and nothing about the speed advantage you get. For my emulator jor1k [1] I tried something similar years ago [2]. However I have

You can also use it to solve labyrinths. Just put a high pressure at the beginning and a low pressure at the end. Solve the Poisson equation. The path through the labyrinth is always the steepest slope. In [1] you can see a small implementa

RISC-V is first and foremost an instruction set architecture. Like all architectures it has a few weaknesses. But if you spend enough money, there is no reason for RISC-V not to be a competitor in the high-end performance segment.

Don't forget, that you have to divide by the z-coordinate and this was also very expensive. With the height field you have to compute one time 1/z or perform a table lookup and then just multiply. You have to test and optimize bot

Author here. That is exactly what is going on here. I just move the horizon line up and down. This works very well as long as the rotation remains small. That is also the reason, why Comanche was a helicopter game and not an airplane game.

Author here. But then you have a division of each coordinate. And this was more expensive than a memory lookup. So you might end up with a table as well. You have to test and optimize both approaches to be really sure.
