Interestingly in a world of blogs and HN (and sites like it) he actually gets to tell his own story, where as in the old media world you couldn't because no one would really print your side.

Founders can sell their shares if they like on secondmarket or as part of a new round of funding. They don't need to sell the company for that.

Seems like at Google they tried to tackle this with free dinners, doing your washing, cleaning cars etc.

You can definitely see this in the workplace, where people are wasting time doing admin tasks that someone on a 1/3 of the salary could have done. Often they are slower at it too, due to less practice/interest. Usually this is caused by job

Because none of your channels work anymore, they all need iOS 8 and a quad core CPU. Unless your talking about using it as a monitor?

You're right, I was working backwards from the life-stories of billionaires I've read about. There are surely a vast number that wanted to become billionaires before they were even millionaires and failed.

Would seem very wasteful to be chuck a 40/50inch/whatever TV in trash/rubbish every 2 years just because it doesn't run the latest software. Whilst phones have a history of that, TV has the best part of century without it.

Do people really try to become billionaires? they start companies intending to become (multi-)millionaires and they do better than expected and become billionaires.

A toilet that tells you if are dehydrated and need to drink more, that'd be neat. Or perhaps automatically checks if your kids are doing drugs (maybe that's too far).

People seem to think puppet and chef are some sort of revolution, as if we didn't automate all this stuff before with bash, rsync, kickstart and cfengine.

What's a 'pure sysadmin'? If they DBA are they unpure? or code? or do biz dev? or support? These all seem pretty normal for a sysadmin nowadays. Reminds me of the 'No true Scotsman' thing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_true_Scotsman

Well that's nice for you that it works, usually works for me at home. I run about 200 desktop linux machines and sqlite locking is a common problem on firefox. Users are often completely unaware of how to fix even though they are quite tech

Whilst CPUs can do billions of operations a second, a traditional hard disk still only does 200 seeks/second at a 5ms seek time. SSDs still aren't common on hosting solutions.

FYI, Bruce does work on cutting edge stuff like writing a book about HTML5 http://www.peachpit.com/store/product.aspx?isbn=0321687299 and giving talks in various places evangelising open standards as part of his work for Opera.
