I always like the idea of a Hacker News clone for other topics but I've never seen one that sticks. I would assume it's a critical mass and quality user base issue. This site is so amazing because of all the submitters, the upvot

Hmm, interesting. I'm 39 and used to have amazing flow sessions in late 20s and early 30s but not seeing them much anymore. I can't tell if it's because of stresses of life or simply because I don't have enough time (w

I'm wrong enough as it is. I really don't need to train my brain on erroneous training data. ;)

Everyone says that it teaches you how to think but I’ve never heard of a good reason why. I remember difficult classes but I don’t remember any special sauce that made me think differently than I did in high school. I’m not saying that I do

Question...why no mention of "change" logs? I'm curious as to why I don't see change logs mentioned often as an important overlay to general system logging. I liken errors and debugs all related to heart beat and breath

Also a great comment. :) Good points on both short- and long-term effects.

I think this is potentially the most interesting comment in here. If all of those GPUs just flipped to another cryptocurrency, global energy reduction would be zero.

I get your point and maybe the solution to fixing historic oppression against race is hard to get perfect. And your financial problem or lack of opportunity sucks but but isn’t it a little silly to say that a program is racist when it’s try

Do any companies subscribe to equity of outcome? I didn't think that was the intent of the word "equity". If that were the case, we wouldn't get promoted or bonuses based on our work, it would just be a timed schedule.

Oh, maybe I misinterpreted. I have much less interest in that argument given that there are tons of pre-existing ideologies that could be discriminated against for a job. Right? If your ideology is "I think it's important to wo

Isn't the real issue behind all the names (diversity, inclusion, etc) about the equalizing of opportunity or at the very least, bringing certain oppressed groups (and, if you don't think certain groups are or have been oppressed o

I would bet that the internal sensor is used in a model with the skin sensor to remove the effects of the internal temperature of the watch and get a more accurate skin temp reading.

I guess you are right. I looked up the stat on Wikipedia: "Fewer than 350 people under the age of 21 have been abducted by strangers in the United States per year between 2010–2017." [1] [1] https://en.wikipedia.org&#x

Cool idea but I generally like the text-based meritocracy that exists now. I mostly go by post title rather than source. I would bet that I’d be influenced by sources more if I saw the source’s favicon. Just a hypothesis.

This book recommendation was also in my comment. Funny how this book resonates with lots of non-finishers. Acceptance was key for me. “When you quit something, maybe you already got what you came for?”

Funny that this is top of HN right. Spent a ton of time in this repo lately trying to understand how modems work. Fascinating how we can use waves to send data (audio or rf). So much of the world relies on these modulation/demodulation

I took an AI class back in college 16-17 years ago. In that class we had to solve a sudoku puzzle using multiple approaches to find the fastest approach (backtracking, backward propagation, forward propagation) for a few difficult puzzles.
