I’m very excited to hear about the new storage engine and Apple’s record layer! Additionally, the lightning talk about backwards compatibility for rolling upgrades would be a great addition. Those three would make FoundationDB a much more o

Do you know when this landed and/or if I need a flag to enable it in Node? I'm running Node 11 and get an error when trying to run a function with a SIMD instruction in it. I hacked up a WAT file with this inside a function body a

WASM has a popcnt instruction, and will eventually have SIMD. I think the bridging cost is less than calling something through NAPI or a native add-on because you're still in the VM. Great hash table by the way!

Has the lack of interactive transactions and only supporting entirely deterministic transactions been a big issue for your customers? My understanding is you're essentially shipping a "stored procedure" to the database where

Hopefully when SIMD lands, WebAssembly purely for performance improvement will be a viable strategy!

At a quick glance, I see mostly primitive operations on pre-allocated chunks of memory. WebAssembly might give you a slight performance improvement, but I doubt it would be drastic. V8 is pretty good at optimizing this kind of code. I’m sur

I saw an early demo of this product and it was compelling. I'd never seen an email like that before. Hopefully it was a good outcome for them! From what I recall, I could choose the size and color on a shirt directly from the email usi

I know what Cloudflare workers are. Did you look at isolated-vm? It uses the V8 isolate API exactly how Cloudflare describes it being used, except it is exposed as a Node module so you can write the “parent” process in JavaScript instead of

You can use WASM from Node. There is even an open source module called “isolated-vm” which implements a similar security scheme to the one employed by Cloudflare. You could install that on whatever you want and run essentially the same thin

Are you planning on releasing any of the architectural details behind this service? If you’re truly replicating to every PoP that’s quite a fan-out and I can see why you’re limited to 1 write per second per key!

Are you planning on exposing a registration and domain search API that can be used to purchase domains and set them up with zones automatically?

Many analytics databases implement something even stronger than that. They keep what are called "zone maps", which are pre-computed statistics for groups of rows that contain those same aggregate functions. This allows for those t

This post is a great illustration of the FoundationDB model. If you can design an algorithm that scales from a theoretical perspective, and map it onto the FoundationDB key-value model, writing the application code is as straightforward as

Honestly, in Manhattan, trash is a bigger issue for smell because it is just everywhere on trash days. We need to adopt the Barcelona dumpsters-in-parking spots method.

Where did the city development group she worked with want her to put them? Outer space? It is trivial to see they wanted them installed in Manhattan in the sidewalk. The fact that there is no method of permitting at all is the problem.
