We switched last year from the Google Maps API to hosting our own pre-generated vector tiles from Open Map Tiles in a docker image (using the mapbox api, and we're hosted somewhere in aws (not my expertise there - I get lost in the acr

A strongly-worded gist, but my sole use case is avoiding DMCA notices. VPN still seems like a good solution for that.

This is definitely something I think about when I think of NOAA and USGS. I’ve been surfing in California since the early ‘90s, and have spent many hours listening to the buoys being recited over the weather radio. We knew exactly what time

I feel kinda dumb. I've made many 1,000s of commits since 2011, and I never realized until now that commit messages can have a "body."

For full years after we had a baby we’d get 1-2 $20 bills a month. And they could always be traced back to a specific appointment or procedure, so we didn’t argue. But yeah, it’s loco.

“XS” seemed to me like a blunder of a name. First off, I don’t know anyone who calls the X iPhones “ten” - they call them “x”. And so XS looks and sounds like “extra small.” Without knowing anything about the X phones, I at first assumed th

Hi, Pinball Map is a hobby project we've been doing in our spare time for the past 10 years. It's currently listing 6,725 locations and 22,704 machines. Code is on github[1][2], and we have an API that is used by various folks. We

I agree with this. I was hovering on a button and then checking the link string in the lower left of the browser to figure out which icon was what. IFTTT is a nice example of a button/icon heavy design that also includes simple text de

This is the first time I've seen this debunking. And my head isn't in the sand, and I am definitely interested in understanding the reality of the situation. So, it's not a waste of breath at all.

To me, Kobo has a major advantage with the “warm toned” backlight on the Clara HD. I switched from kindle just for that. On kobo, the dedrm process involves installing the kobo desktop software (windows/Mac only), which syncs the books

A few year ago my wife and I decided to look up all the restaurants we regularly go to, and we were surprised to find that pretty much all of them rated 3.5 stars on yelp. Perhaps that rating helps ensure we won’t have to wait for tables. W

I'm under the impression that their costs are cheaper right now because public agencies are eager to see a working test case and so exempted them from environmental clearance. I doubt that will still be the case when the scheme changes

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, there isn't a offramp/onramp in the latest design scheme. When Boring Company first unveiled the design, it had elevators that moved vehicles from grade-level to the tunnel. The vehicles then

In California (and I believe many other states), what you describe would be considered a speed trap, and it isn't allowed. Speed limits are supposed to be set by measuring how fast people drive on the roads. If 85% of drivers go 40, th

In California, you literally can't "slap a 25 sign on a stretch of road where 90% of people feel like 30 is reasonable 90% of the time." That would be a violation of the vehicle code, which states that speeds are determined b
